"Cheap 16 ga ammunition" is an oxymoron. There is just not enough demand to warrant producing the massive quantities required to push the price down. That is a shame, too. The 16 is a great cartridge: "Shoots like a 12, kicks like a 20".

Welcome to the Forum.

Good choice. The 16 gauge deserves to be more popular. I have found cheap 16 gauge ammo (as cheap as 12 and 20 gauge ammo) at the local Wal-Mart, Dick's Sporting Goods and K-Mart. Seems the 16 gauge is popular around these parts and they usually stock it. Hope this helps. All the best...

Welcome to the HuntingNut Howdy . I don't think I have ever seen a 16 ga mag extension plenty of 20's and 12's a 16 ga might be hard to find. For the Ammo your local Walmart should have as good a price as any and they have on the shelves around here.

If you have a local tubing supply place you might be able to make one...
Just match the OD and ID. You can put the spring in your oven and get it as hot as you can - let it cool down slow - stretch it by 20% - put it back in the oven and get it real hot again - dump it in a vat of water with epson salts and ice cubes. Then put it back in the oven at 450F for a couple of hours and dowse it again.
You get a good quality spring out of it that will last as long as the gun.

My first shotgun was a 16 ga side by side. I really came to like it and I shot it well. Then sometime back we lost the right to shoot waterfowl with lead and it seemed like the 16 ga fell into obscurity. Now, however there seems to be a resurgence in the 16 ga. My friends at Down Range Wads tell me that they are in the process of making a mold for a new 16 ga wad.
That leads me to believe their is some action on the reloading market concerning 16 ga shells. One can always hope..

Ballistics products has tons of 16 gauge components and a book dedicated to the 16 gauge. I used one of their handload recipes yesterday to nail a dove at around 40 yards with a Remington Model 11. May not sound like much, but there is a lot of satisfaction in using your own reloads and a gun that is at least 60 years old.
