Does anybody think gas prices will ever go down again? Dreamer! If the Democrats get in the White House and end our stay in Iraq prices will soar even higher quicker, if they don't we may be able to bleed Iraq for awhile longer, but will still go up. I agree, buy oil stock. If the Oil Co's took the risk and invested when it was cheap and are now making profits, well that's what free enterprise is all about. You can't blame them, the first US oil crunch was back in the 1970's when gas soared to over $1/gal. We didn't buy smaller better mpg vehicles. What we buy determines what they make. We buy poorly! Alternative fuels are still years away from making a dent in our oil consumption. I'm doing my part both my vehicles are in the 30 mpg range. I just wish someone made a nice size 4x4 truck that would get 30 mpg to haul my guns and ammo back and forth to the range.

I just fill up in the small town of Pleasanton, Texas, about 40 miles south of San Antonio. The price here is $3.08 per gallon.
Doublejs,
You are absolutely correct about oil company pollution. Most of it is done by underground fuel tanks at gas stations. In the downtown area of San Antonio there are over 100 past fuel tanks classified as historic leaking fuel tank sites. The state's environmental agencies, for the most part will just monitor sites to check for contaminant plume movement. If there is no potable water wells nearby, the will give them a "case closed" status and leave the pollutant as is, without monitoring. It's not right and it drives me crazy. I'm like you, I'm not a tree hugger, but I believe that we need to protect ground water at all cost, for our survival. I keep my ranch as pollution free and I can, because I drink ground water from my own wells.
There is technology that can clean up underground fuel spills, but it is expensive. My company has a contract with Valero. In fact we do most of their environmental work. Since they bought out Diamond Shamrock retail fuel company, they have spent a great deal of money, millions and millions, cleaning up the mess that they inherited from the purchase of that company. We are using an aerobic bacteria procedure to actually eat the underground petroleum products. This calls for installing an oxygen generator to inject pure oxygen into the groundwater to keep the bacterial alive. It's quite a procedure.
But, all of the petroleum companies can do more.
Cary

So unless any of you are physics geniouses on the level of Einstien or maybe Tesla, and can come up with an alternate system like "cold fusion" and can get it to the public before you are "bought out" or assassinated-then get used to fuels, petroleum, bio,or whatever else to remain high!Personally I'm trying to figure out how to make my engine run on cows milk-as it is much cheaper than gasoline!!! |
Hey mate....you could always try using the milk like water....separate the Hydrogen out of the water content and run your car on that.
How about visiting your local restaurant...get their used cooking oil off'n them....treat it and run your diesel motor on that. Just think...each week you could run your diesel on a different "flavour" oil and leave the aroma behind you as you drive along.

Gas prices here are 1.54 times higher since the Democrats gained control of Congress. Yet somehow its all Bush's fault??
Face it, if the president controlled gas prices he'd just lower them to keep the Republicans in power.

There are several LARGE trucking companys planning a gas/diesel price strike Ive heard through the grape vine, If the word comes down from the head offices, the trucks go back to their depot and stay put until further notice.
If the big boys stop moveing goods there will be trouble. Several small trucking companies have already went out of business in my area because of high fuel prices, so they wont be able to take up for the big boys.

Just saw on TV where the "green" organizations want a 48% increase in the gasoline tax so that we will quit using so much of it and help the environment by lowering greenhouse gases, sheeeeesh!

Vince,
Your using the Imperial Gallon not the US Gallon for your milk prices I believe, cause at that 2.65$ per liter that comes out to 5.04$AUD per US gallon or 4.68$CAD per US Gallon which isn't too bad.

Bushy,
Look above, TRBLSHTR said he was looking for a way to run a car on milk, but more is more expensive then gas here.
About 4$ per gal for gas and 5$ per gal for milk.
