I'm with Vince, I use a scope or red dot for hunting guns because I can't see iron sights well enough. I don't mind punching paper or popping plates with fuzzy sights but won't do that to game.
As for the "jack handle"... Here is my Win 94 .44 Mag with a 1X Nikon scope mounted on an XS System base.

Pistol scope Redfield Golden Five Star 4x fixed. Is it good enough for T/C Contender .357 Rem Maximum? Kauko. |
From the posting on Redfield's web site it appears the brand has been purchased by an optical speciality company and the products are being redesigned. The 357 Max isn't a real firebreather in a 14" Contender. So, if you like the scope and are getting it cheap, it would be worth a try. With this reorganization, service may or may not be available on the previous product lines.

For a game hunting pistol scope, I'd get something like a 1.5 - 4 X from a good brand.

Glockman, I believe the scope was intended for muzzle loaders and has at least 9" of eye relief.
As for glasses... I wear glasses but it doesn't help me get 3 objects at different distances in focus.

Personally, I still shoot the Bushnell Trophy 2X-6X variable handgun scopes on all my handguns except a Super 14" Contender in 444 Marlin and that one wears a straight 4X, also a Bushnell Trophy. These scopes also do pretty well at dawn and dusk....

Check out the Burris 1.5 to 4 scope, I have one on a encore 444 Marlin pistol barrel. I like the way it works, would recommend it for your 357 Max barrel.
