Long Johns, wool cloths, wool jacket, mukluks, which are lighter than tennis shoes, and alone in the woods.
The woods after a fresh snow is VERY quiet.
There is nothing like it.

ElyBoy,
Are you aloud to use snowmobiles to get out to your stand?
I would think 14 inches would tire you out fast, unless you had snowshoes on and even then maybe?

Even with my bad leg Bushy, it is fun to walk in the snow.
If we hit 14", and it sure looks like we will, [it is snowing real heavy right now,] I will bring my snowshoes.
An old guy back home in Ely made a set for me around 30yrs ago. I'm a big guy so I had him make them 60" long and about 14" wide, with the tips turned up alot.
I used to have to re-varnish them several times a year, because of all of our lake trout fishing in the Quetico.
Now, with all of the restrictive laws, age, and my bum leg, every 10yrs will do for varnishing.
A guy can't use a snowmobile or any ATV in the woods until 10:00am to transport deer out.
I agree with this law.
It keeps the slobs out of the woods.
If you want to hunt, walk to get your game.

You cannot beat a good snow hunt! Makes tracking and trailing a breeze!
I just got back from old Mexico where it was 85 and sunny for a week to an ice storm here in the flatland! Big adjustment!

Bushmaster, Not so much old as lazy...I don't own any luxuries, so for me it's the shoe leather express. However, at my one friends house he has a quad that we use to bring the deer out. There's some steep hills here next to West Virginia:)
Please forgive me for the stereotype, but I assumed most people in Minnesota had snowmobiles.

Don't worry about my feelings Double.
Most people in Minnesota do have snowmobiles, shotguns, rifles, and four wheel drives.
The only people who don't are the city folks, who we all try to ignore as much as possible.
The only reason that the state votes for the damn democrates in the Presidential Elections is because of the Iron Range where I come from.
It is all Union, and the kids learn from birth to put an X behind the donkey's hind end no matter what.

Doublejs...Not to offend you, but all you got in Pennsylvania is foot hills...Try the Cascades and the Sierras. Or better yet take a look at the Bitterroots in Montana...These are, or were the "hills" I was hunting 2 years ago on foot...I don't want to seem a bit tough, but I would bring my deer out in one or two pieces with a travois and my back...I'm so poor I don't even have an ATV of any kind escept "shanks mares"...Not complainin'...It's been a ball. It will be nice to hunt these "foot hills" of Missouri though. Just for a change...
Yup...Prayin' for snow too...

I couldn't agree more, dragging deer is a lot easier on snow then on ground as well. Heck, I've even rode on a dead deer down hills. They make pretty good sleighs but you have to have them go down head first.
By the way, here you have to wait until noon to go retrieve animals with a snowmobile or ATV.
