Had a knock at the door last night about 2130hrs...found my next door neighbour, a lovely young single 32 year old lass standing there. She said:
"Can you help me with a problem at my place?" Of course, quick as a flash, I said, "YES".

Now before your dirty minded buggers start guffawing and nodding your head knowingly, check out the pics below.

She has 3 chickens in a fully enclosed coop/pen that she keeps for eggs. When she got home from work late and went to collect the "cackle berries" lo and behold she had a visitor there with similar intentions.

I picked up her "visitor", a 2m long Carpet Snake, put it into a pillow slip and took it about 400m away and released it into the bush.

Cheers, Vince

Credit for pictures goes to my 18 year old daughter Lyndall.
She really surprised me when she actually stroked the snake then asked if she could carry it in a pillow slip to the bush and release it. Normally critters terrify her. I'll make a hunter of her yet. Very Happy Laughing

No mate...not a pet...its as wild as they come. He had a couple of swipes at me, but I was onto him and quick enough to avoid his chompin' gear.

I would have loved to have kept him, he's certainly a magnificent and healthy fella. I'd put him into the roof of my house to keep the mice and possums away, but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" will not let me have a snake. Another problem is the Government. To keep snakes you need a license and every snake or part thereof must be registered...this includes any skins they shed.

I was wondering if someone would notice the sandal. I didn't loose one mate....I found one. Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously, when I picked up the snake he had a go at me and when I stepped back from the chicken pen one of my sandals caught on a root in the garden, so I left it there until I got the snake into a bag.

I have no idea how to "sex" a snake so I'm not sure if it is male or female...however it sounds better if you call it a "him". Very Happy Very Happy Oh yeah...and I wasn't gonna go groping around "his" nether regions at 9:30 at night by torch light to see if he had one of "them" Shocked or one of the "other thing" Shocked . Confused Confused It just didn't seem important enough to risk "him" chomping on me. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing ROFL

Well, I don't know if he had designs on an egg or two, or a chicken or two. The chooks are just coming out of the Pullet stage so they are only laying small eggs and they are pretty small themselves.

He felt pretty strong and healthy, although a feed wouldn't have hurt him.

I really have to be more careful how I open these threads. I fast scrolled right past the first bit of text to the photos and immediately thought "What's that hideous chicken legged one sandaled creature attacking that harmless snake?"

Well first, Big D. Ya have ta strip down to yer skivies. Then you find a unused broom stick (use the wife's and yer in trouble). Then you have to have a young attractive lady next door who has chickens. Then you have to find (loose) one sandal. And finally you have to find a non-poisoness snake with an ill-temper...

Vince. Do I have the particulars right??

Its not difficult mate, you just need be very gentle, careful and keep your wits about you.

Having said that...this snake is only a python, non venomous...NO WAY would I even think about doing this, let alone do it, with one of our venomous snakes. Only the experts are silly enough to go near them. Playing with our venomous snakes is having a death wish and begging for trouble...BIG TROUBLE. Oxyuranus microlepidotus (Inland Taipan) is far and away the most toxic land snake in the world, with a lethal dose estimated to be fifty times that of the Indian cobra Naja naja.

awww c'mon Vince...I take it back. I'm sure that l'il hunny next door was just breathless with excitement at her one-sandaled hero prancin' around out there in his Hanes-his-ways doing the neutron dance with that snake. I'm sure you cut quite a heroic figure, it just doesn't translate that well with photos... Smile Smile Smile
