Fires, floods, and record heat. This is 1990 picture of Lake Texhoma going over emergency spillway by 5 foot. Looks like it might do it again July 4th.
Local lake Grapevine went from 12 foot low to 12 fooot above normal in abot 3weeks time.
I think in the last 2 weeks we have had around 10 drowning due to floods.
James
edit
The picture was taken from about 1 ½ to 2 miles away SW of emerency spillway and it is really hard to imagine the power of the water. They were running all floodgate and turbines below dam at 65,000 cfs while the water was still going over ESWay at 5foot. The Dam (green part in upper back ground is around 2 miles across. The emergency spillway (where you see the water) is about ½ mile wide. I have been behind dam when they had all gates running and it is scary to be around. Seems the whole world is noisy and shaking and the water spray make you think it is raining. The Red River floods downstream and become 10 miles wide when they release at max.
The central part of Texas (Austin and Marble Falls) is also undergoing same thing on the Highland Lakes chain of the Colorado River. Last Year at this time we were having burn band and wild fire burnt up thousand of section of north Texas around Amarillo. We hope to have a good year for wildlife with all the vegetation if it does not burn up. LOL
James
PS most of dam was built by German POW labor during WWII

Having been caught in a flash flood inTexas I can attest to the fact that they are unlike the usual flooding we are all familiar with. They can make you get religion, if you don't already have it, and are reason to keep those folks in prayer!!!!

no ark needed. its really common for them to have that much water a few years apart. seems like we were always watching waters rise when I was living back home in oklahoma.
talked to my family in dallas and tulsa and its really not too bad according to them.
grapevine lake spent many hours getting fish from there, and lake texhoma.
