Gidday Kauko......mate, nothing wrong with your english. As Bushy says....we can understand it, and if we can't, we will ask. Very Happy Laughing

Don't even think about leaving mate.....it is great to have some input from a Scandinavian shooter. We have members from all over the world now...I'm an Aussie, the Forum is based in the USA, we have Englishmen (Pommies Laughing ), Canadians, South Africans, New Zealanders, and no doubt many others that I just can't remember where they are from. It is AWESOME.

1:30am......mate, you are as bad as me. I am always getting into trouble from She Who MUST be Obeyed (the wife) for staying up late on the net. Razz Laughing

Cheers, Vince

so I have acquired a very large number of 44 mag brass of which only about 30 rounds trim case length all others are short by at least .015 and up to .075" since I will be shooting them in a revolver, I thought to load the short cases with cowboy loads. the pressures are only a fraction of what 44 can handle. and I've been told you can shoot 44 special out of a 44 mag. if this is wrong can someone please correct me before I do something silly?

Gidday bodyalter. It is my understanding that the .44MAG is like the .357MAG.....you can shoot the shorter .44 SPEC and .38SPEC respectively in them.

I have never owned a .44MAG, but I had a .357MAG for many years. Everyone that I saw that used .38SPEC in their .357MAG had a "scar" or mark in each chamber at the point where the mouth of the .38SPEC round reached. If they tried to use .357MAG again they had problems with chambering and/or case extraction. Consequently I only ever used .357MAG cases.

Cheers, Vince

Vince,
I have never seen a 38 Spl ring in a 357 chamber that was perminent and I have seen and created thousands. A bore brush and solvent and the rings are gone in a couple of minutes. However, if you do not remove the ring, extraction of a 357 cartridge after firing, gets pertty sticky.

Yep, the 44 Mag is like the 357 Mag or 375 SM, the shorter cases will fit and fire for lighter load work.

Kauko,
One would think you were a silhouette shooter with the TCs and DW.

SwampFox....38 Special ring in a .357 magnum chamber? Oh yes in deedee..I had one in my Colt SAA...And I have a friend that had a ruger that shot only .38 Special in it and one day he loaded some .357 magnum rounds in it and they were jammed after firing. Had to pull the cylinder and drive them out...No. It wasn't caused by carbon build up in the chamber mouths, although that is another problem in of itself if you are shooting both at a range...

Swamp Fox. I am " silhuette shooter", but no competitioner. I am pensioner and alone in the range so many times. So, I use cartdboard animals. I like all shooting and reloading. Kauko

Freedom Arms order: Never .38spl to .357magnum. But Freedom Arms is Freedom Arms. It must be over reaction, (I order my self: no 38spl and 357mag to 357maximum. Am I over reaktioner?). Kauko

I've been using an RCBS Trim Pro. Fast, easy and accurate.

I have tried several trimmers but I have found the Lee cutter and case length gages (with a drill clamped into my vice) to be the fastest and easiest to use. Last night I was reloading some .243 Win and I trimmed 40 cases within 20 minutes or so which also included polishing the cases. One of the side benefits of the Lee case length tool is that it makes it very easy to polish cases. While the case is still held by the Lee case tool, I spin my drill and clamp onto the case with some #000 steel wool. The steel wool polishes the case to a really bright shine. And, it only takes maybe 10-15 seconds. Any longer time and your hand will become warmer than you may want. :-)
