Does any one remember the single shot bolt action rifles that Herters used to sell, back in the 1960's?
You could get just about any cal. you wanted, sights or plain barrels (for scope), several different grades etc.
Very low price ('corse this was the 60's).
Was just wondering about them today, like who made them?, are any still around ?

Harters were made by BSA as far as Google searching tells me its in the book Bolt Action Rifles by Frank De Haas. Smile

Quote::
Herter's guns were not made by Herter's, they were made FOR Herter's by various contractors. The English-made bolt action is a BSA-manufactured Mark X Mauser 98. Some of their rifles were made by CZ, but if the gun is marked "England," as it should be, since it's a pre-1970 import, it's a BSA.

Quote::
the Herter's XK3 was a Mauser action made in Germany. Later models of Herters Mausers were made in Yugoslavia and were marked M-XK-3. They bore a stamp with the figures ZCZ within a circle. Mr. de Haas figured the ones made in Germany were stamped as such.
These were the J9 herter's rifles. The U9 was based on the British BSA Monarck action, a modified Mauser push feed type.

Hope this helps. Smile

Nope, but I did have a hand me down from my Dad. It was a cooey single shot with, I believe a 16" or 18" bbl. It was a very short rifle but it fit me well at 10 yrs old. Smile That was a quit few decades ago........ Shocked
