Replacement rifle triggers

I have decided to replace my factory Remington 700 trigger with a Timney or a Riflebasix. Actually I tried to adjust the factory trigger and kind of messed it up. Please let me know what you can on the two replacement triggers. Thanks

I prefer the Timney trigger over the Basic, it is easy to adjust and install.

I do not know what you use your Remington for, but if it is a varmit gun, you might consider the Kipplinger trigger sold by Brownells. It drops in as a 6oz single-set with a 3 pound non-set.

I only have experience with a Timney and it was an easy job on my Mauser action. 15 minutes start to finish. Now I have a 2# trigger like I wanted! Very Happy

Welcome to the Forum.

I have about a dozen rifles with Timney triggers and really like them. In many cases, Timney triggers are easy to install. On some of the military sporters, the trigger had to be fitted to get proper sear and safety engagement. My gunsmith fitted those triggers for a nominal amount. All the best...

A question for any of you that used Timney triggers, are they single stage or 2 stage ?? Confused

Timney adorns several of my Remington 700s and the ones I choose from their selection allow adjustment from 1.5 to 4lbs. They are single stage. I prefer the ones that retain the factory safety and bolt release.

Installation, for me, takes about half an hour. If the factory trigger assembly is carefully studied, the Timney is a straightforward swap. Their enclosed instructions are very basic and don't itemize the process in detail. Properly sized punches and a calm mind facilitate installation. The resulting trigger pull is worth the cost and effort.

I have two rifles with Timney triggers and I can't complaint at all. I easily would (and do) recommend the Timney to all who ask.

Why do you want a two stage trigger? The Timney is a tripple lever single stage that is adjustable for any weight pull in the range you select - hunting and target. The hunting trigers are adjustable down to 1 pound or so and the target triggers adjust down to ounces.

Maybe i am misunderstanding what you mean by a two stage trigger. My 03A3 springfield came with a two stage trigger. You pull it untill all the slack is taken up and then it gets harder and releases the firing pin. Is that what you want?

Yes I want a military type 2 stage trigger like on the M1903. I dry fired my FN49 alittle too much when I was little (as long back to the point in my life I wasn't big enough to handle the recoil of firearms. :D) and for some reason the only type of triggers that feel right to me is a good "unadjusted" (read "heavy") 2 stage military trigger. The commercial triggers feel "weird" to me I guess I could say. Smile

i also like 2 stage military styled triggers. i hunted using a enfield over 40 years lol.

now to find a 2 stage military trigger at one pound pull..... priceless

Good luck on that one pound two stage trigger.
I like my Timney way more than that two stage creapy, long travel piece of crap that was on my 03A3 - even if you lighten it the long travel is too much.

ive used that crappy 2 stage trigger on my enfields since i was 8 years old ie 40 years.

it may be crappy but it gets the job done since im not a target shooter plus to tell the truth ive used them so long i dont shoot as good with a smooth crisp trigger.

I've used both Timney and RifleBasix and have no problem with either. They both install and adjust easily. The Timney probably has a more repeatable pull weight but the RifleBasix pull is consistent enough that you will never notice the difference without a trigger pull gage.

With regard to two stage triggers, I agree that some older military rifles have crappy two stage triggers and some also have crappy single stage triggers. I have a a 2 stage jewell trigger on my AR15 and I love it. About 3.5 lbs of pull in the first stage, a very clear wall where the second stage is about to engage, and one more pound to fire. I also have modified a two stage trigger on my M1 Garand and it works very well. I believe that good two stage triggers are better for hunting and military rifles because the second stage can be set almost as light as a benchrest trigger and the first stage can be 3+ lbs to insure safety.
