Around here they are a nusance (spelling) and in LARGE number. I havent used my newest rifle yet but have wasted many with my SKS. I would like to try out my new rifle, it is the Rem. 700 bdl .308 VLS.

Crashland73,
Welcome to the site. I really like the rifle. The Remington 700 BDL seems to be a very popular rifle. Just about everyone I know owns one in some caliber. I have one in the 300RUM, I like it a lot. I have never even seen an armadillo in person. I would think that the .308 will really get the job done though. LOL Very Happy
Post some pictures here on the site of some of them armadillos after they meet the old .308 Razz
Everyone likes pictures, and its free to upload them here. DallenC is the site admin and he has a really good thing going with this site.

How about armadillo stew? LOL

We dont have them in Utah so I cant comment on shooting them. All I know is they are one of the only species on earth besides Humans that can carry Leprosy... something mildly un-nerving to me.

Seems shooting them at 400 yards would be the safest way to deal with them Smile

I used to shoot them with my short paratrooper SKS which is 30 cal. That little bullet would almost make them look like you stuffed a grenade up their butt and pulled the pin. I am anxious to find one in my cross hairs. They do carry leprosy. I have not heard of anyone getting it yet thank the good Lord. Possums (opossums) spread a desease too. I didnt know it till the other day. I read it in our local paper that a horse died from it. They crap and pee on their hay and they eat it and wallah! They have been on my list for quite a while before I knew that though.

Crashland, where are you from? I lived in Louisiana for a while back in the 80's and saw a lot of the critters but never heard of anyone hunting them down there. I must have nailed a dozen or more with my car. They are some stupid animal. Confused Anyway, I bet a 308 will turn um to jelly Razz

I live in NW Arkansas. Man they sure make a thump when you hit them with your car dont they? LOL! I hit one with a 94 grand prix I once had years ago and it sounded like I tore the whole underside of my car completely out. I love to shoot them sorry things.

No long range 'dilla' huntin' here in Georgia. All short range stuff. Open the front or back door and shoot them in the yard. I'm convinced that no one can hurt the population. I shoot them regular and the next day there is a replacement in the yard.

I never got a taste for possum on the half shell so I dont worry about the desease which most people get when eating the tail meet.

The ole 22LR or 22 Hornet is plenty of gun for the armored critters especially when I hunt them at night so the neighbors don't get upset.

They don't have much sense. They will let you walk up to them and you can catch them by the tail but be ready for a wiggle fight. The tail is rough on the hands so wear some leather gloves and the claws will tear up your clothing and underlying skin. It's fun, just be carefull.

Part of my daily routine is kicking dirt back in the dilla holes. Sprained my ankle when I stepped in a dilla hole so I declaired war on them. It's an ongoing war though. I'm up to 37 killed in the yard so far this year. Too expensive to shoot a 308 on as many as I shoot. Not much sport or skill involved, just pest control.

Popgun,
Sound like you are up to your ears with them suckers. Kinda funny, I always thought they were sort of endangered. Dont ask me where I learned that, cus I dont know. But it sounds like a lot of fun to shoot them. I need to make a trip to some of the eastern states to do some critter controll with some of you guys. LOL

Two more tonight so make that 39 this year. Twisted Evil

Arazona to Georgia is to far to travel to hunt 'dillas. You should be covered up in coyotes depending what part of the state you live in. Question

Tell ya what, I will ship you a breeding pair of 'dillas. Put them out for a year and you will have your own lifetime supply. Laughing

Sounds like a good plan, but I dont know how the ranchers around here would like me anymore.
Your right I do have a million Yotes to shoot around here hopefully I will see some this weekend.

Thanks,
Knifeboy

Good luck on the coyotes this weekend. I'm going to a friends 60th aniversery party tomorrow. He took me on my first hunting trip when I was a kid. I might be able to slip out sunday and try some coyotes at the hunting lease.

Just came in from my evening 'dilla hunt. Add one more to the total = 40

Well good luck with the armidillo factory Razz
