Those big bush fires over in the land of Oz look nasty,hope you folks well out of Thier path... The sunlight over here is like wearing polarised sunglasses,everything has a slight amber tinge to it. Stinky hot thirty degrees here today and SWMBO decided a good day to bring home another cord of firewood to stack in section!!! Got it done but by hoki it was warm work. Typical of Victoria this time of year mate…bushfires usually started by lightning. You’d think the accompanying thunderstorms would put the early fires out, but fire, coupled with high winds seems to win out every time. Not sure if there have been any deaths as yet, but there have been many homes destroyed.

As much as I love the bush, there is no way I would live in amongst it, especially the pine forests like they have in the US. Pine trees go up like a bomb because of the sap and oils in the wood. Our eucalypts aren’t much better, although not quite as bad, but when the timber catches fire it burns extremely hot and burns like crazy, as do most hardwoods, making it hard to extinguish.

A mate of mine who used to be the president of the Knifemakers guild lost his sheds and some animals, lucky he and his family escaped fine.

That’s good mate…at least him and his family survived ok, but the loss of animals (pets or otherwise) is pretty devastating.
