yip that got your attention!!! Bought the kids a shotgun the other day. Single barrel .410 baikal. I already have a .12ga the same for them to graduate up to and my brother in law has a 7.62x 39 the same as well. NO I didnt cut the barrel off this time. I put the butt off my old 12ga on the 410 and took 35mm off the butt then put a wee thin plastic butt plate back on. the kids can handle it ok now as it was too long before. It fits dad too which suits me down to the ground as I blooded it on a bunny the other day I had forgotten how much fun the wee guns were.

Ya done good there Elvis. The smile on that young mans face pretty much says it all. Oh! That goose sure does have a rather long neck. What species is it?
Great story and pics. Thanks for sharing. Very Happy

2nd season for the young fella, he hasnt had much luck so far he has fired a few rounds but not connected Sad we havent had many wounded birds for him to finish off( people are FINALY getting to grips with steel) we went out for a wee look up a local creek/stream today only 5kms from home we took 4 decoys with us and I bagged a parrie before we put them out. Very Happy we got set up and my patience lasted for a hour before we set off upstream to another possie Sad . we got set up again and sat down in the scrub a hen mallard flew right past the dekes about 5yrds up and woke us up we never even got a bead near her. the waiting was dragging a bit with the odd bird flying but none coming in. we knew that a few were sitting out in a paddock so I got the lad to find his uglyest reload and fire a shot wtf .while he was reloading a group of mallards showed up. I dropped 1 upstream and Nathan was yelling and yahooing that he got 1 too. Shocked I didnt see his bird go down but retreived mine with a little help from Nuggy noo( hes only a wee dog so all his help is little) my lad found his duck in head high blackberry Rolling Eyes before we got there to help him Shocked .we got another mallard while packing the dekes up and the lad got his first pukeko on the walk back to the car.smiles all round.a bit of a late start to the season but a plurry good one.

Elvis, he looks about as happy as a young fella can get...and I don't blame him.

Keep him at it mate...he will never go hungry if he learns to live off the land.

Cheers, Vince

well his shotty is back to standard and my old workhorse has its own plain jane stock back too, with a few saw cuts for good measure, took it out for a walk today fired 4 shots and brought home 2 fat mallards would have been 3 but dog and I failed on the find of a 3rd which went down upstream with a splash then just vanished...man that really pi$$e$ me off I hate to loose a downed bird. now why do I usually use a 6 shot pump??

reviving an old thread.... that last post was when we realised/had to admit the cocker spaniels eyesight was shot....

the wee .410 still gets occasional use but now lead is banned for waterfowl it will be less n less.

been sawing stuff up again, shortened an old .12ga single that my .45/70 insert lives in
then the decoys got Alice in wonderland treatment..."off with her head" cut heads off 5 decoys and reversed them so look like sleeping instead of upright and alert...rather chuffed with how they look and best part is it cost me nothing but time on soldering iron and used older decoys that havent been used lately as they just too alert looking,OK as part of big spread, but when using lower numbers they just got left at home.
did 3 hens and 2 drakes to add onto the 4 sleepers we already use.

Well our laws have changed and now all guages need to use non toxic shot.so I bought kg of bismuth $85 and have made up some loads for wee gun.12.5grns lilgun.claybusyers red was....same as Winchester 1/2oz jobbies. In a 2 1/2" shell with half Oz and in 3" shell with 3/4oz..... Well technically it won't quite be that heavy but same volume of shot/pellet count. Will see how they go one of these days.slow loading with old Lee whackamole set.but they look ok.if star crimp won't happen I just hit a bit harder and collapse it inwards to form a defacto roll crimp over my cardboard disc. Punch them out with cut off 270 case.

So you got also them stupid laws. I can understand why they ask not to use lead shot in water... you 're still alowed to use plastic wads?
"l'Histoire se répète"... history will repeat itselves... when are we going to use black powder for shot-shooting? Long ago they used stones instead of lead shot... Long ago they even didn't use guns... but then they also didn't have internet nor cellphones...
