my man tried it today minus the sticky wad..shooting much more accurately...
the multiple ball idea isnt new...a .410 with buckshot is balls in a row and patterns tightly from the few Ive loaded and fired, its like they slipstream each other LOL.

Did I already mention that there were times they even put 2 roundballs in a load? Maybe even in blackpowder time they were thinking about tearing the kevlar with the first ball so that the second could penetrate better |
I've read that, on occasion, US War of Secession soldiers fired two Minie balls over one charge (60 grains of FFg), the idea being they'd hit two targets. I tried it in a reproduction P1853 Enfield. Lots of recoil from that 1,000 grains of lead going down range. I also tried three patched .58" roundballs over a standard load. As I recall I got about a 3" pattern at about 40 yards. |
Minié is a total different approach... it's a conical with a holow base, easy to load and the holow base should expand and seal inside the barrel.
You see there is so much stuff involved that it cannot be examined by 1 man, no matter how old he becomes there are still things left to be checked. And the nice thing: the old men on the range know that they don't know that much and that there still is a lot to investigate, that's what keeps them alive and pushes them back to the range... the influence of changing 1 component in a load cannot be answered by Mr. Google...

Elvis, thank you for that reminder that I still have to start reloading the .410. I even kept some cases of the .303 Br and the 9,3x74 R aside for this project.
only time goes so fast and old men work so slow...

It's not that we are "so slow", Aloyslus. It's that we have, over time, learned to "pace ourselves".

The only primers I have ever used were CCI.
Both large and small, I reloaded .45 ACP, 7 TCU, and 7mm Int Rimmed.
The latter two were for a Thompson Contender Frame, with three barrels.

I believe the CCI product is very good, although I have only used them intermittently. When shooting pistol (target only in Australia) I shot combat orientated matches and used Federal SP exclusively in my S&W 586 revolver because they have the softest primer cups, although I used Remington primers in my TC Contender in 30.30 WIN shooting IHMSA (again we are only allowed to shoot target matches with pistols out here).
I no longer shoot pistol but reload rifle and shotgun (.223 REM, .243 WIN, 30.30 WIN, .303 BRITISH, .410 cal, 20g and 12g shotgun). I use Remington primers exclusively in my rifle calibres and for shotgun I’m using Fiocchi at the moment, but will use whatever I can find because primers are in short supply out here. I even cast my own shot (7 1/2) for clay targets, and larger shot, including slugs, for hunting.
