I received some bad news a couple of days ago. My old shooting buddy (we were together in the Army) was in hospital on his last legs with cancer.

He had his left eye removed a couple of years ago when they found a tumour behind it, and all seemed ok after the operation. Then about a year ago they found some “shadows” on his internal organs. After investigations they started treatment. The treatment was a new one and they were confident it would sort things out. All seemed to be going well…until I tried ringing him about a week ago and got no answer. It was after that I received a message from his SWMBO saying he couldn’t speak and was comatose on his last legs in hospital. He had gone downhill very quickly. He lasted another day before quietly passing away. Luckily his family from around AUSTRALIA were able to get there before he passed. Unfortunately I didn’t get enough notice.

Joe and I shared many great adventures together and I will miss him greatly. We had some great times hunting together and also just chatting in the phone, taking the p1ss out of one another (he lived in Tasmania and I’m in Queensland, 2400 kilometres apart).

Wherever you may be now Joe, may you Rest in Eternal Peace mate, in the arms of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Sorry for your loss. Its probably better to remember him as he was, healthy and in good spirits from times past.

Sucks getting old and watching friends pass. My dad is 85, the last alive from his family and near the last among his old friends. Its very depressing to outlive friends and family.

Losing a friend/huntingpartner hurts more than anyone could expect. I lost my best huntingpartner in March 2019 and nobody would believe how often I think about him. Every time I ride next to his workingplace where we hunted rabbits, or when I see a lot of pigeons in the air, or even simply when I think about the past...

But Vince: I believe that one day we'll meet again...

Much thanks to all…it helps a lot knowing I have good friends around the world who understand my loss.

I’ve always lived by the rule of “growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional”. Joe and I had some great laughs together, but when it was necessary, we were as serious as the situation demanded.

Joe and I will meet again some time in the future, but how soon I don’t know. If nothing else, Joe’s passing has show me my own vulnerability, and at 71, it’s time I made some plans for the future well-being of my family. Best I get a Will squared away ASAP. Passing Intestate (no Will) in Australia is great for the Government, but not good for the family, plus if I don’t make provisions in my Will for my firearms, the Police will seize them and destroy them, no questions asked.

Bushy, I often think of Larry, his dry sense of humour, and the enjoyable times we had when I visited. I suppose I’m just a sentimental old softy.

Like your friend he was a good man.

Damn, when is it going to end!! I got word this morning that my Dentist has just passed away. He’s been my Dentist for the past 25 - 30 years and we’d become good friends (he’s also ex Army).

They say things happen in threes…I’m not looking forward to another one…not sure I can handle another mate passing right now.

I’m thinking you are right Elvis, although I don’t plan on falling off the perch any time soon. Having said that, none of us knows when it’s coming, so best I get my ars3 into gear and get these things sorted mate.
