Blue Label? Is that for veggies?
I'm not that great whisky-lover, but I can appreciate the Chivas Regal and even Bushy's Jameson...
I don't like walking that much anymore... but I never got the opportunity to meet the Blue Walker...
By the way: have you ever tried our "jenever"?
Don't think so... when I ask for a translation they give me 'gin' and that's not at all the same... look for Filliers, Smeets and even more locally stuff or the Netherlandish's Bokma, Hertekamp, ... there's a long list with divisions in fruitjenevers and herbal jenevers...

I live in a rural area and doubt my liquor store has Teeling (I'll ask). I do, on occasion, enjoy Bushmill Irish whiskey.

RUH ROH….seems the fish might be biting again…everything has gone quiet. I gotta get out and do a bit of fishing now that the weather is cooling down. The cooler weather brings the flathead in and they are a magnificent table fish. Flathead in Australia are a saltwater fish, whereas I believe that what they call flathead in the US are a freshwater catfish.

Those sortof look like what are called Burbot, a fresh water type of Ling Cod. Supposedly delicious... I've never tried to catch them. Primarily they are caught ice fishing in January in one of the most cold, gawd awful windy places to ever visit. Oh... and you fish at night, through the ice... -40F if its windy.

The secret of fishing for flathead is to fish very light, I use 4lb test line, either mono or braid (I prefer braid), always use a strong leader, sometimes a single piece of small split shot about 12” or so up from the hook, the hook is a long shank around a size 3 or 4, and for bait, a single whitebait. Best time in the estuary is at dead low tide when the flathead hunt in ambush mode along drop offs.
In the second pic it can be seen why they are called flathead. They have two thick filets, one down either size with largish bones that are easy to see when cooked.

I use mono 8lb test most pf the time. Including salmon fishing. I lose fish due to it but works well for most fish here.
I've never imagined using 4lb test!

When I have to fish light, I’ll even drop down to 3lb test. When fishing with 3lb or 4lb, you have to be very careful how you fight the fish and apply the drag. I’ve even opened the bale on the reel to let line spool out freely when fighting a fish with very light line.
However, my everyday line is usually braid either 8lb or 12lb. Good thing about braid is the line is generally finer for slightly more strength.
