One spot in my state was the coldest in the US this morning, -62F (-52C for you folk down under).

At my house its been hovering around 0F in the night and a high of about 19F during the day.

Just a tad bit brisk lol

Curious...Don't, or have you in NZ and Aus ever heard of air condition?

yip air con is great...in a vechille.... not needed in house and no plurry use at all if n when power goes out...or price of it goes up.
in 2006 we had major snow storm/dump that took out powerlines etc and some of our area went powerless for over a month..lpg cookers saved the day for many.heating houses was ok with fireplace but those who had converted to heat pumps and electric heaters were up a certain waterway without another certain vital bit of equipment, many had to go live with friends or relatives for weeks.
funny thing ,laying on bed covered with just a bed sheet sweating the other night I was thinking how pleasant aircon would be all the same.
99% of the time its fine, just ope na few windows for slight breaze and close curtains on sunny side of house.

Yeah, Tricia and I spent the last week in Sydney, sweltering in that heat, cleaning out Tricia’s Mum’s house she had lived in for 60 years. It damn near killed me…I’m still suffering. I’m sure I’ve done some not so good to my body and hurt myself.

I can’t even begin to comprehend temperatures like that Dallan…that is waaay beyond cold mate.

I made it very clear to my mom that when she dies, the only argument between me and my brother will be over who gets to throw in a lit match.

Elvis, I lived next to Lake Norman for about 6 years, in a single-wide trailer without AC. Very humid, high temps. I had to work night shifts and sleep during the day. A window AC unit in the bedroom saved me! I'd turn it on a little before I went to bed and turn it off when I got up, to save power.

I love my solar panels - pretty much eliminated my electricity bill except for the bothersome service fee for the privilege of having my home hooked up to the power mains. Still the fees is cheaper than the batteries for night uses.

No air con here…too damned expensive to run. It runs to nearly an extra $1000 on your power bill to run the air con right through Summer.

Worst thing at the moment is they have just predicted a heat wave of 36°C (97°F) here in Brisbane, bloody hot, but coupled with the tropical humidity, it will be unbearable.

Whats your average humidity at? We only use an Evaporative cooler on our house, its cheap and works great here in the dry desert (well most days... occasionally you get a muggy day with an incoming storm with high humidity and high temps).

Couple solar panels could run an evap cooler motor for nothing.

That's called a "swamp cooler".

domestic garden sprinkler putting water on tin roof works a treat, but no good with water restrictions.... saw it on a cow shed the other day,we were doing it on cowsheds 35 years ago, keeps flies out of shed too as curtain of spray around edges keeps them out..trouble was ,getting cows to leave shed and head back out into heat LOL.

Brisbane the average humidity ranges from 50% in winter to 65 - 70% through the months of January, February and March. On average February is the most humid and September is the least humid.

This doesn’t take into account the heat waves that often blow through at this time of year. The temperature yesterday was 38°C (felt like 138°C) with humidity said to be as high as 95% in places. Fingers crossed this heat wave doesn’t last much longer…I’m not sure my obese body can take much more. My major concern though is my 95 yr old Mother-In-Law. Without air con, it’s knocking her about, but like all old birds of her age, they just suffer in silence.

We had an evaporative cooler as kids, and it wasn’t too bad…don’t know why we haven’t got one now as it would certainly make things more comfortable.
