Did a little scouting while we camped over the past weekend. Found 2 cow moose, one with a baby. My hunt starts at the start of the moose rut, so if you find where cows like to be, the bulls will come to them
Sorry for the odd looking photo, had my phone hooked to my spotting scope, which was on a bulky tripod that I was carrying and trying to shoot pictures from, lol!

Season started last Saturday, runs for a full month so I'm in no rush. The rut hasn't started yet, and we have lots of leaves still on the trees. Give it another week or so, and things will really get good.
But, in the past week I could have killed a bull all but 1 day. All small, but we've had lots of opportunities. Its kindof interesting having such a long season, with few other hunters... and apparently alot of moose. Its like window shopping LOL!
I'll see if I cant post some pictures later.

Its been a grueling hunt so far... seen alot of small bulls up until last Friday, then the cow moose hunters showed up and ran the cows off, the bulls all moved out.
Not seen anything personally even close to a mature bull. Trying to get help on it but thats going sideways as well. Went in with a guy last night to an area there's usually alot of big bulls... it was a tough vertical hike a couple miles in, tough for an overweight out of shape guy anyway. The guy said there was a 60-70% chance we'd kill a bull up there... in the end we saw a single cow about a mile away across a major canyon that would take hours to cross.
3 weeks down, 2 left. Still time but I'm getting nervous.

I've been all over AF Canyon... only small bulls. Now most of those have gone into hiding with the cow hunters running the cows around.
Was up above Park City last night, we hiked in about 4 miles up a steep canyon, saw a single cow. Its been brutal. Leaves should be alot further along in falling off... lots of pure green aspen and oak brush still... lots of cover.
Going up Guardsmans Pass tonight.

Alaska Yukon moose are huge. We have Shiras moose here, a small subspecies. Its rare but some break the 50" mark.

3rd to last day of season. Grueling hard hunt, weather was too hot, leaves stayed on trees too long. Many other things went drastically wrong.
Got a tip from a friend with a Cow Moose tag, he found a bull while looking for cow yesterday. I went in this morning with my wife and at the crack of dawn we found 3 bedded bulls. I looked them over and chose this one.
Shot was 86 yards with my 7stw. Bull died quick. Other two moose lingered for ages in front of us... we walked closer and got within 30 yards as they fed. They couldnt care we were there. Eventually they moved far enough away we could see the bull I shot.
He was estimated at 8-9 years old, 37" wide antlers. Got really lucky in the end! Really feel like we worked harder for this than anything else we've ever hunted. True "Once in a lifetime" experience.
