My son and his wife came over to learn how to reload today.
They each loaded 50 rounds for their pistols under instruction and I answered questions as we went along. They liked it! and now they have more bullets to shoot! I have to see what I can find to help set them up for reloading at home. I think I have a scale and maybe a trimmer but I have to make sure they work properly. I think I have a vernier caliper. I'll help find them a press and powder measure, dies, shell holder, tumbler, hand primer and I can make a couple reloading trays. Maybe I can make a primer pocket cleaner/uniformer. I'll watch for primers, powder and bullets on sale. I think that will get them going.

If you have any old stuff that you don't use let me know what you want for it and I'll add shipping to the price. They are reloading 9mm for now.

you can still buy LEE whackamole loading sets new in some calibres.... 2nd hand stuff is all over the show at much reduced prices...

Where I'm located there's a Bass Pro , Academy and Wholesale hunters (store front & office) within a 30-mile radius . Also a couple more other large firearm stores that are close by .

If your lucky you may find a few bullets , a fair collection of powders , and as the owner of Wholesale Hunter(one of the largest online sale co.) told me ,He's been looking for primers for weeks , not any out there .

Paul...You forgot a reloading manual like Lyman 50th edition in your list.

Besides your tutorage they need to read a manual.

What I tell everyone on the reloading is "You don't save a lot of money but you make a more accurate round as all guns (firearms) are not the same ".......Just because two firearms are the caliber doesn't mean they will shoot the same pattern or group. Also just being faster doesn't make it more accurate. Cheers

the old manuals are still great...there is stuff all in newer manual thats not online anyway...unless youve sucked the crudmore tit etc I CANT see point in buying a new manual.....

There are a lot of new powders that run really well in the classic calibers. The IMR Enduron line looks really good in the 243 Win, and I'm getting really good results with the 6.5 StaBall in my 270. With some of the old stand-bys getting hard to find, some of the newer offerings are becoming a viable choice.

True to a point.
However powders change, new powders are developed, new projectiles are developed and new methods emerge albeit not often.
I have a 1980 edition Sierra manual, a mate has the latest one, quite a lot of changes and that was just in the .222 rem section.
Very noticable that a lot of the old loads in the 1980 manual had been reduced in the latestest version.

However powders change, new powders are developed, new projectiles are developed and new methods emerge albeit not often.

I agree with Pete on this...updated / upgraded powders, whilst they still retain “near enough” the same burn rate and characteristics, have slight differences just the same. The same way powders from lot to lot can vary minutely.

I have an old Sierra manual I got in 1981, plus a number of old ADI manuals that I often refer back to, but I always check the latest online manual before deciding on a new load...it’s the safest and commonsense option.
