this is very old and very simple.....bit like me really
if your projectile is semi pointy (before BC was common)
and velocity between 2700-3000fps ISH (Before chroncgraphs were common)
well folks it just works.....one line to remember,no big drop chart,no fiddling with dials or anything else just point n shoot.

bush hobbits like myself will have the dedicated scrub gun 1-2" high at hundy as 200yards is a looooong shot in the bush but the open tops rifle is sighted in this way.
back before I had access to pointblank....THIS was it....life was simple.
for me using mighty poohseventy with 130-140 grn loads its 270ish yards point n shoot...350-400 yards....oooh thats a long way without rangefinder to guestimate...hold on spine. any further...time to stalk closer.

the very best/simplist way Ive heard point blank range described is sort of like this
deers vitals roughly 8" think volley/soccer ball
if you put a 8" pipe between you and your deers vitals point blank range is the maximum distance you can shoot down that pipe without hitting it before you hit the deer...eg no more than 4" above or below point of aim/centre of the pipe.
thus point blank means point and shoot at centre of vitals and achieve a kill shot.

looking at add above for pointblank....if the scale was reduced a tad so it approximated real size on elk....the above would make perfect sense.

Elvis, I have always tried to adhere to no more than 1" high or low.
It keeps me shooting to 200 yards or closer. At that range it takes a good amount of wind to go off target.

Mate I have shot eggzachary 4 deer at over 200 yards.....most of the 40 odd Ive shot have been closer than 50 yards...I couldve used the open sighted 30/30

Wait until you get a bit older.

Ain’t that the truth mate.

Elvis...all the hype about POA vs POI, x” high at y range, x” low at z range, aim here, aim there...it does confuse the issue for the average everyday hunter for sure as most either don’t have time to think of it all, or they don’t think of it at all in the excitement of the moment...they just want to hit their target.

Your Rule of Three is old school, and we know old school is tried and true mate.

I suppose the ultimate is to get so close you can stick the barrel in one ear, and watch their eyes grow wide as you pull the trigger and they hear what's coming their way.
