This herd of deer is usually on the paddock where my daughter keeps her horses. Methinks I might have to go for a wee “look”.

"daddy" looks like a mighty fine buck! Don't get nervous, Vince.

It's OK Vince, I don't see any twigs in the line of sight. Smile

They are beautiful animals. I knew I recognized them, but had to google 'em. Seems like the only place in the US to hunt them is down around Slim's neighborhood.

there used to be a lot of hunting exotics in TX. Then the activist got involved and had laws past would not allow them to be hunted. It was a great conservation effort until they ruined it.

Hey, wait a minute...

Haha Haha Haha Haha

The most annoying part is the local farmers, rather than treating the deer as feral, are treating them like native animals and “protecting” them by not allowing shooters or hunters. burr burr burr

UNTILL they get stuck into the winter crops planted for farm stock.....keep on side.....you will get your chance,a bottle of amber liquid and offer of half the venison could see you right.you would get that wonderful skin to tan (maybe offer to get one done for farmer...thats two to shoot)
Ive spent the last two weeks watching Red deer at under 500 yards, named 9 of them and labeled one steak and casserole (just before it went into freezer.)

I was thinking I'd never heard of them but recognised them as something I'd seen before - a quick google & I see they're what I know as axis deer.

I like the "musk deer". Whether it is China, Korea or Northern Eurasia they have vampire teeth that really look out of place on an herbivore. Some have small antlers but not usually.
