Respect and celebrate your history! Otherwise the bastards will try to take it away, like they are doing here.

For those that aren't aware of the Anzac tradition...the allies put in an attack on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey during WW I. The Brits stuffed up and landed the Aussies in what is now known as Anzac Cove. The terrain leading up the ridgeline was near vertical, but the Aussies and the KIWIs made a good go of it. At one time the forward trenches were separated by only 70 metres. The Turks were lead by a brilliant strategist by the name of Kemal Ataturk, who is the father of modern Turkey and an honourable and much respected man. As it turned out the allies had their butts handed to them by the Turks, and the Aussies and KIWIs conducted a covert strategic withdrawal over night.
The death toll on both sides was horrendous, however what it did do was cement the comradeship between Australia and New Zealand.
ANZAC - Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
We celebrate not war or a defeat, but the sacrifices made by all soldiers, from both sides, in the battles on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
There is plenty of more detailed information for those for are interested available on the internet about these battles.

God bless them all.....
I took my bro in law and two mates from landSAR for a walk up a big hill this morning...we paused high up the hill as the sun came up/it got light and spent a moment to remember those brave souls who have gone before....
had a good day hunting/plodding.13.2kms covered something like 137 stories of building height climbed and managed to bring home some meat for the freezers of us all......... those who died for our freedoms to do this wont ever be forgotton as long as I draw breath.
