I don't think a .460 barrel is going to wear out on 1500 rounds, my brother has .460 and has close to 2800 rounds thru his pistol. The accuracy is as good as it was when was new. I know because I reload all his shells, we are pushing a 260 Nosler Partition at about 1850 fps. I think somebody is exaggerating severely. I have a .500 with close to 3500 rounds thru it and have had no problems at all. I not saying that you are wrong, I think just misinformed.

It sounds to me like you guys just don't like S&W, If they were giving Freedom Arms revolvers away I wouldn't take one. I bought one new about three years ago it is not very accurate, it is in the gun safe and probably never come out again.

buffalohunter, many of the first prod. revolvers did have problems, and being licensed to work on and get information unlike the average person from S&W, none of these statements are in anyway exaggerated. Being misinformed is not the case either. The problems i have worked on, seen, and fixed, were in fact all first production revolvers (which many, and if not all of the problems were fixed). The 500 is known and documented as well for the cylinder lock-up due to ill effects from recoil.....However now, the 500 is a fine beast!

Just like S&W other manufacturers have a problem or two once in a while, as is probably the problem you've had with your FA. But there i know for a fact you could have contacted FA and the problem would have been fixed, FOR FREE! And i don't think it's that "we" don't like S&W, it's just that over the years, some of us learned to expect a certian degree of quality from them......And lately, in more recent times, many have been let down.

Good, George. I didn't want my .45 ACP conversion to be related to 10ring's .460 S&W. Thanks.

In my will??? My kids get everything if I leave them anything at all. Just spent a real big chunck of their inheritence just yesterday. About $115,000.

And by the way...I think your excuss is a poor one for not being on here and being gone so long. If you are going to use the "hook-in-the-back-of-the-head" excuss you should never bend the barb over. It makes for a better "story"

Bushy....you mean we're not related???? Sad That's ok if you spent the money......and i'm sure those arabian horses (3) will be put to good hard working use Very Happy

And it's not an excuse......I just connect by cell phone now and since i'm not home very much at all, i have less time to do things. And the next time you go fishing Bushy, make sure your tetenus shots updated......would'nt want that rusty old hook that never gets action to get lodged in ya for the sake of making the trip and story bit more interesting Very Happy

Here we go again. All this noise about the S&W 460 is unsubstantiated. No one at S&W is saying anything about it's barrel life. You'll only hear about it here in this forum. If anything here is true, I'd be on my third barrel by now. I shoot this gun all the time, most accurated revolver I ever had, especially at the distances I shoot.

I've been been reloading Hornady 300 grn XTP/MAGs on top of 40 grns of Hodgdon H110 & CCI 200 LR primers. That's my favorite load & if the barrel were to wear out in 1500 rounds of the factory stuff, then what do you think my reloads should do.

I've fired 45 LC & 454 Cassuls thru it as well with no problems. I have the feeling we have some here that are just spreading BS. It's kinda like the Chevy vs Ford mentality. There is no proof the S&W 460 wears out after 1500 rounds, it's heresay Mad

Not exactly, you will find it here as well in short.........
Military.com

And as far as i know, the problem was "fixed" and no "BS" is being spread? I'm not going to lie and say it's perfect, nor will i say it's great though. These ARE REAL problems that i've had, seen, and dealt with in my area with knowing a few dozen (probably close to 3 dozen) of people either bringing them to me or other friends of mine in the trade. However, and in most cases, loads used were above the 300gr weights.

Although, and since you are having good success with it, that's great and i wish you much more.....But the "Ford vs. Chevy mentality" and "hearsay" comment......Well, i've dealt with quite a few of these revolvers now, most good and some bad. I've owned a bad one and worked on many more "now" (since the original time of posting) good ones than bad. So i really don't see the need to take this any further.

10ring, I can only believe some of the early production 460's may have had problems that I hope have been dealt with. I'm sure mine isn't an early production version. I'm happy to have it, it's been the most accurate pistol/revolver I've ever owned. Anyway, enough said. I hope others find their's as good as I have found mine.
