Now that the deer season has come to a end was wondering how every one did. I got a small 8 point and a big ol fat doe (dressed 142). Shot both with a 7/08 140 gr c/t sbt. The buck was 155 yards lung shot never moved. The doe was 95 yards lung shot went about 60 yards. Also blew a couple chances but we wont go into that.

Sounds like you had a good year and congrats on the animals. Lets see some pictures. I shot a Javalina with my bow and I shot a Coues whitetail with a rifle. I ended up shooting the Coues with my 300 ulra mag (way to much gun for a Coues I know) I broke my .270 just before the opening of the season, so I was forced to use my 300 ultra mag. It did the trick though. Anyways I am trying to get my pictures in an album so keep a lookout for them.

Sounds like good success so far. I shot a nice 4x4 mule deer on opening day. Shot him so it was all downhill to the truck. That was the icing on the cake. When I figure out how to post a picture I will put some up.

It was an interesting season for me. I failed to draw my general season Muzzleloader tag this year so I bought a leftover Archery tag, bought a bow and spent the summer practicing.
Overall I thought it was pretty easy to bag a buck with it... I was hoping for any buck, just because I thought it would be hard to get anything with a bow out here in the west. I ended up shooting a nice 3x4 mulie opening morning. It was fun.
Couple months later we had a massive snow storm blow in for the rifle deer season which my wife hunts. Opening day and the following morning it was stormy so the deer stayed bedded but the 2nd evening it turned out nice and deer came out of the woodwork! I found a pretty good 4x4 mule deer about 1.2 miles away with my spotting scope and we were able to get right up within 200 yards of it and she was able to hit it with her .30-06.
Overall it was a fun season.

Thanks for the info, but i just acidently deleted the photo so I will have to redo this whole thing.
So anyway lets see some other peoples pictures now that we are starting to learn how to do this.
Oh yea I figured out how to post a personal picture as my Avitar. I think it is pretty cool to have a picture that goes with your Handle. Good Idea DallenC.

chainsaw,
I've been using the .300 Win Mag on everything for 14 years now. I have taken a number of deer with it, and it will obviously do the job. However, I tend to be a fan of heavier bullets to save the eating part if my shot goes errant. I used to use the lighter bullets with they're high velocity, but soon found that the 180 and 200 grain slugs fly almost as flat, hit harder, but don't make as much blood jello.

Hey Winnie, Is that a Vanguard in the picture with your deer? I, like chainsaw, just bought a new Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Win Mag this past year. I have not used it on game yet, just done some sighting in with it. I'm not terribly impressed with the accuracy with factory loads. I'm getting the 1" they guarentee, but not much better. I'm going to start handloading for it this spring and hope to improve on my groups. I'm debating whether to use 165 or 180 gr bullets. The hunting I'll be doing will be on deer size game only, and the longest shot I'll be taking will be down a power line at no more than 200 yds or so. Most of my hunting this year will be in areas where a 100 yard shot would be unusual, and I'll be using my 308 Encore. I was just curious about your take on this. I don't know many folks around here that shoot a 300 Win Mag. I would appreciate your input.
Blaine

We are having some challenges here in Pennsylvania and hunters are divided on the recent season. All the best...
