Depending on brass used, measured water capacity to the base of the neck can be as much as 71 grains.

Out of curiosity, have you estimated the weight of the final product?

That’s a long azz barrel with a pretty significant chunk of steel out there on the end of it.

I realize that part of the accuracy equation is rigidity, which often comes with weight.

The barrel and muzzle break look magnificent mate. The mating of the two is so fine it looks like the lot was machined from a single piece of steel.

I'm curious as to the coating on the barrel...what is it mate?

very tidy...could you gain neck length by starting out with a .270 case????,just read today it was based on 30-03 not the 06???? so was longer...never heard that one before

Hunter Joe 21 - I haven't given any thought to the overall weight, because this is not my gun. The stock was factory weighted to 5 pounds, and I'll post the total weight once the gun is completed. There is over a pound of weight in just the base and rings...


Vince - Thank you for the compliment! No coating on the barrel. That is just a bead blast finish that I put on most all barrels I do, then buff it with an oiled 0000 steel wool pad...


Elvis - I first based my cartridge off the 30-06 case, but later found that by going with 280 brass, I could gain a couple grains more powder capacity. .220 is plenty of neck length to hold a .30 caliber bullet, and since the bullet should be .003 to .007 into the lands, the bullet will be in perfect alignment with the bore...
