I'm very wary of buying optics off eBay, especially after the Leopold debacle where the chinese were producing "Leopold" scopes that were direct copies...without the quality of build. Having said that, not all items on eBay are garbage...some are genuine and good value.

The Chinese are masters at reverse engineering, but building to their own shoddy standards.

Stopped at Cabela's last night to look at spotting scopes. Took my 20-60x60mm with me for comparison. Cabela's was the only place locally that I have found so far where I can get my hands on the scope and compare. They had an eye chart on the other end of the building that I could zoom in on - great for comparing detail, clarity, and brightness. They didn't have any Celestrons. I lined up the Vortex Razor, Vortex Diamond Back, Cabela's Vortex Intrepid, Nikon Prostaff 5, and my Simmons to compare my 60mm objective to units with 80+ mm objectives. Of course the Razor was best overall and had features the others didn't, e.g., coarse and fine zoom knobs, tilt, etc. I was surprised to see the Nikon was equivalent in clarity and brightness to the Razor at 1/3 the price. I need to investigate more and find a Celestron.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dawgdad! Mrs. Claus put a Celestron under the tree for me!! Some pretty impressive clarity - I feel like I see the filaments in the Christmas lights across the street.

Did you get a carry case for it?

No - just the soft bag that came with it.

Found a RIDGID injected molded tool box that will hold it nicely. I'm loading it with foam for projection. I will be throwing it in the back of my truck too much.

Can't believe this injected molded tool box only cost $29. Pretty slick. I took out all the innards and glued in some foam.

Where did you find that box? I've been looking for something similar. Pelican's are just too expensive.

Slim,

What is your intended use?

Range or spotting game?

What motivated me to get this spotting scope was for hunting pronghorn though I look forward to using it on the range. I have an inexpensive Simmons 20-60x 60mm and above 35x in low light conditions it is of no value. I plan on using it with a window mount when scoping for pronghorn. At the range, I'm hoping I will be able to read my chrony when I'm shooting through it at 200 yards during bullet BC testing.

Have you had a chance to look at anything other than Christmas lights with it yet???

I have one on the way, but plan to use it at mainly at the range, although it will probably be in the truck with me next year during hunting season.
