The last military contract 1911A1 rolled off the Ithaca assembly line in 1945 (serial number 2660318 ). That means every legitimate military contract 1911A1 in storage was either made before or during World War Two. There's about 100,000 of them in storage. Ok I want one

I remember years ago looking through a rack of 1911s at a National Guard small arms room and there were Remington Rands, Singers and Union Switch and Signal pistols mixed in among the Colts. There could be some interesting finds among those for sale. It will definitely lower the price of those WWII 1911s on the market now. I still have this WWII Colt made in 1943.

When I was in the Navy I qualified expert with a Remington Rand .45 ACP. Sloppy and it rattled when shook, but boy could it shoot.

I'm not sure what the odds would be of finding a matching upper and lower. Armorers may have mixed and matched as the pistols got older and parts were worn. On a side note there were quite a few made for the government that had no serial numbers.
BTW: This may be the first good news to ever come out of Obama's presidency.

It will probably change when he finds out or its all part of a plan to sell them to us to get the money then enact and Executive Order to take them away. Sorry, I'm a pessimist.
