This is a very interesting video. To be totally honest, the thought of eating canine does not really appeal to me at all, but the following video sort of sets me to thinking. Have you ever tried it, if so, what did you think? Are you interested in trying it one day?

Steven Rinella and Remi Warren Hunt and Cook a Coyote - MeatEater

Wild dog? Yes, I've tasted dog when I was in Olongapo. No, I have no intentions of tasting dog again.

Well, I have eaten monkey and canine and aside from the appearance of a whole monkey on a spit (it looks like a child) I would prefer the monkey but canine is not much different than a roasted turkey leg. Duck is worse in my book - even prepared in gravy it is greasy and dry at the same time - like pigeon breast covered with bacon fat. The meat is dry.

Would I eat it again? I'll eat whatever there is in order to survive. So, if we're together in the high sierras and you die - You will not die in vain.

I'll keep that in mind if you and I are ever in the Sierras...

If served well I will eat anything.
Carnivores can be such as dog, cats, and crocks
yet herbivores can be such as caterpillar, bugs, worm and elephant.

They are protein, the secret is just how you cook and present them.

The way I look at it, your dog would eat you if you died and it was hungry. Turn about is fair play.

Sorry, I have hunted them for 40+ years, know what they eat, and skinned enough of them to know if they smell bad raw, there isn't anything you can do to make them smell or taste good cooked....

Oh I dunno: A couple of garlic bulbs & half a pound of Madras curry powder will fix most anything. Very Happy

IMHO I think the taste and level of satisfaction of any meal is directly proportionate to the degree of hunger in the participant.

I have had dog, monkey, rat whole sparrows, blue jay, grasshoppers in both Africa, and Mexico (Mexican were better, love those chilies), big black bugs in China, and some things whose classification I am totally unsure of in other parts of the world.

All were interesting, not necessarily excellent, but hunger is a great motivator, and a chef that knows what he's doing can make an awesome meal from almost anything. Spruce twigs might be an exception.

In the true traditional sense that would be like eating a family member and even though all animals are like family members (and all family members are like animals?) a coyote is really not on the menu. The last one I saw in Arizona was so maingy and skinny, nothing about it looked like dinner to me. I really wanted to shoot it just because it seemed a humane thing to do, but it's against my culture to kill one. I do have a beautiful coyote pelt (don't tell anyone) and it's a reminder that a coyote can be a beautiful animal. Ok I'm not into the cultural vein all that much but there are some things I'd rather leave alone. Lots of NDans use the coyote pelts. They're a symbol of many things in story telling and what we don't know about them, we don't know. Might bite me some day!
