Dear Guys... we have that calibre battle here as well.
Most of those Springbuck was shot with a 243 win Savage BVSS... What a gun.(less than 1/4 MOA at 100m)
So shots was at 427 yards. 243 is the best calibre for this size buck in the Kalahari. BUT.... always a BUT.
The moment the wind picks up you have trouble with a 243 win... when that happens you take out the 270 WIN... I am still struggling to get 270 win Tikka Varmint to group... The second option is that if you what to shoot another 2 types of BUCK in the Kalahari the Oryx and Kudu you can do so with 130-140gr bullet.
The 243 and 270 WIN is both cost effective ammo and more important AVAILABLE!!! If the yanks are struggling to get ammo... can you imagine how it goes in AFRICA?!!
Many years back I used a 300 Win mag and liked it a lot... and I would like a 300 WSM as they say they are more accurate.
When I am big one day I want to shoot a buck at 1000 yards like some!

Hey Acssa!! (hard to pronounce that second s ) I'll wipe off a stump for you at the fire pit and warn everyone to tone the testosterone to medium while we all get acquainted. Bushy and Lester will be chewing lips of chicken (whatever that is) so maybe you could bring along some REAL meat for us to burn on the fire and I'm sure we'll get along jest fine.

Welcome Acssa, Its great to get new blood around here. That picture is impressive. My biggest bucket list item is to hunt Africa someday for a few plains game animals. It looks like an extraordinary place from all the pictures and movies I've seen.

Welkom.
I'm an Aussie and a newby too. My aunt was from Rhodesia, so no matter to me where you are from. Would love to visit Sarth Efrika one day
PS - this is a post in "Small Game". Is that pic what you call small game?

Hello Victorian,
The Springbuck is the meat hunter's smallest aim... they come in big numbers and taste great... I prefer it over lamb or beef. The slaughter ave. is about 19kg. The big rams slaughter out up to 28kg that I have seen. The Kalahari Springbuck is also bigger than the ones in other parts of South Africa.
So to me that smallest game that I hunt is Springbuck and Impala.
Medium game is Kudu, Oryx, Wildebeest,
Please note that this is only my opinion.
