So I have felt the need for a rifle, that weights under 10 lbs, because my current crop of rifles are all pretty heavy.

Went this morning with the wife to look at guns, she said she wanted to look at a hunting store, after me telling her that I'd like a lighter gun for rifle season this year.

So I pointed out the gun, she said "If you want get it". So when the sales guy asked if I wanted to look at one I pointed to it and said "It's 30-30 right?" just to be sure as there are other calibers out there for it ... sure enough he replied "Yes", before his hands grabbed it off the rack I said "I'll take it".

A purchase at the cashier later and I became the owner of a Marlin 336C. Also picked up a box of Hornady's Lever-Revolution ammunition for it.

As much as I love my "Jack Handle"...the Winchester Model 94...I don't think you will be disappointed with the Marlin mate.

Hmmm.... You asked permission, it was granted, then you bought a new rifle - wonderful! Okay then, what does the wife get in return?

My first rifle was a Marlin 336C and I loved it! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine....

Model 336 is a great gun.
Congratulations to both of you.

Peace and quiet? I have been bugging her about having a kid. Laughing

I love my Marlin 30-30, bought some plastic furniture for it last year for the wet hunts around here. Tried the rubber tipped bullets but they're not as accurate in my gun as the 125grn flat nose. Have fun with it!

I've been wanting a baby girl for over 30 years, but no such blessing...

I hope you can talk your wife into you guys having a baby. It will be one of the greatest days of your life - the birth of your child....

Great job "D" only thing better would have been a 35 rem caliber but the 336 Marlin is an awesome rifle and the 30-30 will treat you well. I have a 336 as well only in 35 rem and the Marlin is a great rifle!!!!!!!! ENJOY my friend...!!

I have always liked the Marlin levers. Good on you. In fact all the lever guns put me back to Saturday matinee's. Since I load 35 Rem for a 760 I can see a 335 in 35 somewhere in the distant future.

I debated over the 30-30 and 35 Rem in my mind 1895ss, but it came down to one thing.

If a store sells ammunition here, you'll always find at least 22LR, 30-30, 303 British and 30-06.

The 35 Rem seems to be stocked more at bigger stores, closer to Toronto, for the most part, and away from where I tend to hunt.

Yep you are right, 30-30 ammo is certainly more readily available. Good luck and have fun with the new rifle... Smile
