What do you take when hunting out at night for lighting , flashlights or headlamps ? Which are more useful ? Anyone is encouraged to show me about your choices .

In my state it is illegal to hunt at night - especially with lights but if you are sitting around the camp fire and have to use the facilities then a good LED head light works well. So does the Coleman mantle gas lantern or my heavy duty "hurricane" lamp that runs oil, gas or alcohol.
If I am back-packing in we don't carry lighting - we use the braille method.

It's more fun to listen to someone else than it is to be the one trying to find the privy. Smile

both. headlights are great but plurry hard work in heavy fog. I like a wee string on my torches to keep it attached if i fall arse over tit.
leds are so cheap now and last long enough that spare batteries are ALMOST not an issue.

Its legal to hunt at night here...I use an eight inch diameter spotlight fitted with a couple of million candlepower quartz halogen globe...will "hold" a rabbit at about 150 metres. I can plug this light into the cigar lighter in the truck or onto a 15 mAmp deep cycle battery that I carry in a shoulder bag for when we go walkabout. When we skin etc an animal at night a LED handheld and headlamp does the job nicely and we also have a fixed light on the back of the truck as well.

For "around the camp" lighting I use a gas mantle light when cooking etc, a LED headlamp when I need to go fer a crap and I have a small LED lamp I use in my tent.

What do you use magicstone12?

Vince, what does it do if the rabbit is only 50 metres away? Singe the fur off them so there is no need to skin them?

Haha Haha Haha Haha

Purty much Slim...but it works a treat mate. When I say 150 metres, it is actually throwing a good pencil beam much much further than that...but 150 metres is far enough when shooting at night.

Might have to reassess that idea though as my mate has bought himself a 17HMR and we are about to start developing subsonic loads for the .223 Rem, .243 Win and 30.30 Win using Trail Boss...picked up 1.5kg (3.3 lb) for $120 today.

I used some Trail Boss in my .270 the other day. An interesting experience. Much quieter but those low velocity bullets sure do arc at the longer ranges.
