Sweet!! SlimJ you did a great job on that! For right now I'll keep your offer in mind but actually I want to rebarrel similar to what you did. I love the half octagon barrel on yours. I'll wait an see if Dalan gets that article up, would love to see the details on it. I have a guy that will build me a barrel like that but he won't chamber it or thread it, so I need a smith that knows what he's doin to finish it. I have the wood already lined up, but I also need some time for my huge stash of money to come rollin in before I can do any thing at all. You sure did a fine job on that!

When I remember it correctly Dixie sold liners to put in a barrel, are they not available for a 45 Gov? That might be the shortest and cheapest way to upgrade Suz's birthdaypresent. Maybe you can try it with your barrel and do 't better the second time with SJ's gift...

Hey that's an idea but I wouldn't be able to get 45-70 out of it, maybe something like 30-30. The .43 is smaller than the 45-70.

Hey SlimJ is that a rotary eject or a bar ejector, mine is a bar ejector and I assume it is on a #1 receiver?

Its a bar ejector. I remember filing on it some to get the right clearances.

Suz, it should be possible to make a .45 out of a .43. It's done with a special drill and I only have 2 questions: is this liner available in .45 and second: such drill comes with a lining guide in front and will the guide of a .45 drill fit a .43?
But I'm sure when it's available there will be in smith who already made the tool available for that job.
So as I understood: with a special drill (with guiding tool to keep the drill centered) the center of the barrel is opened till such a liner can fit in. Afterwards the liner is gluid inside the barrel.
So the barrel keeps its original shape on the outside, but is new from the inside.
And because a 45-70-case is as cylindrical as a .22 LR and it's pressure is not that high, technically it might work so somebody must have tried it.

I got some myrtle wood for the stock today, got any pointers for workin with it? I bought a stick that's 2 1/2" x 6" x 9' it cost me $58. Will have lots of left overs to turn some bowls with. You should have seen what this guy had for sale. Some of his myrtle wood chunks were at lest 2ft wide and 9' long, probably 4" thick (I didn't measure those). Rough cut and you couldn't see the figure in them but he was a bowl turner that just died and I went to his estate sale.

I own his old wood lathe, he bought a new $7000 one and used it for about 2 months, then died of cancer. He marketed his bowls all along the Oregon coast in tourist shops. I guess he also made stuff with Scandinavian sort of themes too, painted flowery stuff. There's a big Scandinavian community here.

This is a Pedersoli "Remington Long Range Creedmore" in .45-70. I got to shoot it at 500 yards once and did OK. The load I used then was a 480 grain cast semi-spitzer over Accurate 5744 (I think). The tang sight had broken so I was using the buckhorn to shoot off of crossed sticks. I was pretty pleased to go three for five on an approximately 3' square steel plate. Of course I could still see back then...

Thanks Pumpkin! Is the barrel tapered? If so I'd like the dimensions. I think I handled one once and thought it too heavy. Would also like to know how the fore end attaches to the rifle, I was thinking of a single band at least on mine. 500yds with iron sights? no way could I do that! Probably not even "back in the day". I shot mostly pistol when I was younger anyway and a scoped rifle.

Uberti also makes a repro that you may wish to have a look at. I did today but couldn't find one for sale in Canada.
