I lost the front sight to this so bought a new one which was over sized on the dovetail and filed it down myself to a press fit and loctited it in place so it wont be going anywhere ...
It's a airsoft gun that shoots little 6mm BB's (and yes you shoot people with them like paintball), but it is the closest I've gotten to any kind of gunsmithing work.

Everybody has to start somewhere.
Are you happy with the job and does it still shoot straight?

Bearing mount or 518 for me. If I never want it to come apart I will use the red 271 but you have to heat it to 200F to get it to release.

I replaced the outer barrel as well with the sight,
From that Orange tipped one to the nicer thicker one I got from a Canadian retailer (Orange tips are American laws not Canadian thankfully).
Any ways, before and after the barrel swap, I took groups, the original barrel which is thinner and rattles more gave me 2.5" groups (11 rounds rapid fire) and the new barrel gave me 1.19" groupings. Firing across my living room into a target box I had made.
So it not only is shooting straight now that I gave it some TLC, it's shooting better. I couldn't be happier. I'm sure other's wont be as happy though.

Well done mate...good job. What grade of Loctite did you use? If you used 242, I am not sure that it will hold mate. I use either 262 or 271 when I need high grip. |
I used 242, it's already a strong fit, you'd need a hammer to get it off even without the loctite. I put it in their more for "insurance". Losing a sight can be annoying.

Regretfully Suz that isn't the case.
If I did half the stuff I end up doing with my airsoft rifles with my real guns I'd probably have a ND.
I hate to admit it, but during range shooting and hunting I'm a lot more careful with my rifles then I am when playing.
Running (yes I am big but I can run ) around with firearms isn't the smartest thing to do, but if you want to outflank your opponent quickly, you got to do it.
But would I do the same while hunting with my M1A? Ofcourse not, that would be crazy, besides, I'd scare away all the deer.
If anything Vince is right and I should have gone with some of the red stuff instead of the blue.

If it works.
Biggest thing I find, people don't protect their flanks. I mainly play in a 11,000 sqft industrial unit that has been converted with plywood huts etc in the inside. Not bad, but there are ways to sneak around and get them at or near their spawn point. For that the pistol comes in handy. I have a G3A4 but it is a little too long for "running and gunning".
My record so far is 4 before someone at the spawn area shot me. Which isn't bad considering there is not that much space to maneuver, and after you do it a couple times in the same day, the other team starts to remember to protect their flanks.
