Nephew Joshua is on leave from serving with the ADF in East Timor.
So we are going to a nearby forest for a few days,
recoil therapy for me, a chance to unwind and having no target shoot back for him
Might get nothing, but the weather going to be perfect.
Have a great time guys!

gelandangan, I thought a hare was a rabbit. Or is a wabbit something Australian?

Aloysius, the .45-70 is a great cartridge. I haven't tried for any subsonic loads with it but that should be reasonably easy. Hodgdon shows a load with a 400 grain cast bullet over 13.0 grains of Trail Boss at 1000 ft/sec. You know, I do believe I have those components on hand and I have the next few days off...

Them wabbits is sneaky buggers Slim...they have been twicking Elmer Fudd for more years than I can wemember mate.
A hare and a wabbit are almost the same, but very different at the same time mate.
Rabbits and Hares. No more confusion!

Pumkins: thanks. I will keep that load in my mind.
Vince: I would add 1 very special extra thing: hare can have an extra nest about 14 days lather than the previous. So they can accept while being pregnant.
And when you look at damage-control there is a big difference between these nasty rabbits and the gastronomer hares.
Even in the kitchen they are totally different spieces.

Actually here in the states we have 4 species of rabbit. The smallest is a pygmy or bush rabbit as they are sometimes called and about the size of a guinea pig and not on our hunting list. The next bigger is the Cottontail Rabbit which unlike your rabbits down under is a low profile little critter with mexican jumping beans in his arse. He can dart faster from side to side than those desert racers and is a hoot to hunt as well as good table fair. Next is the Black Tailed Jack Rabbit which in body is closer to your rabbit but with longer ears similar to your Hare. He is considered a pest of sorts and can be hunted year round as deemed a non game species and reportedly not good table fare. Last is the big daddy we call the Snowshoe Rabbit. He is actually a hare but gets nice and fat like domestic rabbits and has the shorter ears but HUGE rear flippers, hence the name Snowshoe. This rabbit has a unique trait in that he goes from a very dark brown during the summer to a snow white camoflage in the winter. He too is a tasty critter and only allowed to be hunted in the winter months as are the cottontails. Why am I suddenly craving FWIED WABBIT ???
