OK ... I will be the first to take a crack at it. Without seeing the stamp on the base of the brass I will say 12 gauge, evidence of a roll crimp at the mouth of the case could be from a host of things but I would first guess a slug and maybe second a "bird bomb" charge like the farmers use to shoo birds out of their crops. If it werent for the cully coated base inside the case I would have said an older roll crimp over a paper wad shotshell ( or none of the above ) ....

Like 10spot, my guess is 12 gauge...although the "belt" around the head has me a little confused.

8 bore wildfowling cartridge going by the size of the pen, though it could be bigger.

A tequila triple shot glass, used in the bars of Mexico, when the night is too young for you to know he's (she's) the one I'm taken home tonight.

OR it's an industrial grade 8ga. shot shell fired from a cannon in a cement factory and it uses about 3/8 inch size steel shot, later removed with magnets from the cement. Or 3oz. slugs for a kiln.

yea
it's
just
a
guess

8 gauge industrial filled with lead shot, low velocity for cleaning furnaces and boilers.

Wow! You guys are good! These are some awesome guesses!

Cept Bushy....you can do better than that. Sad

And Suz...buwahahahaha! Laughing

I'm giving it to our resident Shotty-master, Elvis! He's super spot on!

This sucker was an industrial slag/coke busting load with a belt to keep it from going into field guns, had a rolled crimp (as noticed by 10), and- fired a zinc-alloy slug......weighing 2oz! Shocked

Whata racket that must been! Shocked

when you get a large ball of coke/ sticky coaly bits inside your furnace you
A. shut it down and let it cool enough for guys to get in and beat the crap out of it with sledge hammers then slowly bring it back up to temp taking oh about a week or
B. you stop stoking it for a wee while open the door and give 2 fellas earplugs and ear muffs about 1000 rounds to fire (1 loads 2 pulls lanyard and unloads) and leave them to it for a few hours then just start stoking it up again and back to work in less than a day...
I didnt cheat really.... my big brother is a foreman in a pulp mill and explained the process to me awhile back.

Had to read this twice to pick up on the part about "pulling the lanyard" cuz I couldnt imagine shouldering an 8 gauge for 1000 rounds. Pretty sure it would stop being fun after the 1st shot otherwise. Think I will google this contraption up on the web and see if there are any pics available .
