This year we decided to head out to Brawley to a new spot a lil north of the Mexican border. Getting there Friday morning we scouted the area and things look Ok, if a little light, but doable.
Here's a sign more places need to have in their windows.

Hit the rack and it's up at the crack 'o dark-thirty to get our spot...I dressed in long pant and sleeves as I usually do for AM stuff as the bug are off the charts 'till the heat comes on...

The action starts off very slow, dead in fact. Nothing's coming our way at all. It's lighting up a mile or so off as shooters are doing their thing...after an hour or so things are picking up. They are finally working their way to us and my bud's are connecting but....I'm missing left, right and center. It's not hot and heavy but it's enough to keep you busy. After a box of misses I take a break head back to the truck for a cool drink of soda and regroup, change my spot and a little and finally start to connect. I get one here, miss some there, I'm having issues with crossers big time. I finally get a nice pair coming at me. I sit still till they are close then from my stool pop the leader, he plops then the trailer flares left and I nail him too. A perfect double and I am stoked!

Well it's time for lunch and it's getting hot so we take a break and hit a local taco shop- old school real tacos and Mexican food...they hooked up us with killer caps too!

Then back to the rooms for a quick cleaning of birds and a marinate in terriyaki, then a bacon wrap and stuffing with all manner of goodies comes later...guns needed cooling off, they were getting really warm w/o gloves.

Then it's back out for round two, more shooting, got our limits, head back to the hotel clean the rest, get the ones from the marinade, wrap in bacon, then foils and we start our tailgate party in the parking lot of the hotel while stragglers are dragging in being forced to see and smell what we are up too!

All in all it was a blast. Just enough birds to keep one on their toes, the crowds were very light in the fields, I only got stung once by some giant assed bug, or maybe it was someone using #2 shot I dunnow, it took a spell but we got our limits and I'm glad I got to shoot all day before I did, I burned up around 4 boxes I think and man was it fun....
Here's a parting shot of yours truly with my favorite lil 20g pop-gun at the end of a great day...take care ya'll, happy hunting season!
