Field & Stream recently had readers post their favorite gun for their states and the magazine posted the results. www.fieldandstream.com...state-guns
Although I agree with most of them, I had to change a few for some states.
Massachusetts: water pistol. With a trigger lock.
California: Semi-automatic Nerf rifle with the pistol grip cut off, converted to single shot. With a bullet button.
Washington DC: can of silly string.
Both New Jersey or Illinois could qualify for my pick - simply an empty holster.
For New York - bright colorful squirtgun with a "ten squirt" limit.
And for Idaho - Spud Gun.

Lemme tell ya about spud guns. I built one and it shoots a spud 250 yards easy. I cut the head off a 1/2" bolt and stuffed it inside a spud and fired it into a cinderblock wall that was being torn down. It completely penetrated the block. I was shocked. Good to know i guess for the future zombie apolocalypse.

Dallan, you got me thinking bad thoughts about spud guns and bolted spuds!!!!
I'm going to have to give that a shot...my spud gun got "lost" so I'm going to make a new one using all the bits I got laying round.
Here in NZ they are classed as a firearm and you gotta have a license to make them. I should know Ive got a couple of young ins in trouble with them.
Actually they are bloody good at shooting bait ted over the breakers at surf beaches.

Yep, the humble old fly spray powered spud gun is a firearm under the definition of a fire arm in the Arms Act 1985. Thats the law... even if your only having harmless fun

You can also use oranges in leiu of spuds.
For lethal effect at up to 40 mts freeze the orange.
We once put an 8 inch deep dent into a steel garbage skip at work one night (quiet night shift) from around 15 mtrs.
Max range was around 300 mtrs.
Potentially lethal but good fun.
The other thing was the 10 shot fatigue limit to the pvc piping when using "start ya bastard" (go on google it) before structual failure sprayed shrapenal around.......

They are "firearms" in Australia too, sadly.
Vic police put out a message not too long ago after catching a number of teens with "orange cannons" that they are "illegal" and people will be caught.
Technically, they aren't illegal, you just need to have a license to manufacture them and have a firearms license to posses the "firearm" you have now created.
Oh, they aren't orange or spud cannons, they are ??? calibre breach/muzzle load air shot guns. If they happen to take spuds as well as well as loads of lead shot, then so be it.
