My brother called me up this evening and wanted me to research an issue he is having with his brass. He has a large amount of Wolf 45 ACP brass and found that the primer pockets on some of them are greatly undersized. Has anyone heard of this issue and what is the solution? I thought that he may be able to solve it using a primer pocket reamer but I am not sure if they are so undersized that he would run the risk of damaging the brass by using the primer pocket reamer.

Well, I have a box of magtech brass 45LC with oversized primer pocket that made it unusable, because any primer I put in would simply slide out.

They aren't sized for a small primer, are they? Seems that I read someplace that some .45 Autos were loaded with small primers instead of large.

Well only some of the brass primer holes were undersized so if that is the case I would think they were mixed in by mistake with ones that take large pistol primers. I will do some more looking into it and hopefully find out some more. Thanks for the info. If anyone comes up with anymore info I would appriciate it. Thanks pumpkinslinger.

I am sorry I listed the ammo wrong on the title of the pst, he is sizing blazer cases. but he said he has some that do not even have a head stamp so I am not even sure which brass he has this issue with. I will try to find out for sure.

That Winchester winclean ammo is also has a lead free bullet, I've seen it also labeled as Winchester NT for non-toxic which has the small primers. Federal champion line in 45acp is also EPA friendly and I read someplace that the bullet was Zinc? This has also spread to the 9mm luger, 38spl, 40 S&W and 45 acp.

Eitherway - Blazer is aluminum case and Wolf is steel case and Berdan primed that are not ususally reloaded...Make sure what type of ammo it is and if it is brass cased boxer primed

Both Blazer and Wolf have re-loadable brass !!!

I've re-loaded some of the Blazer Brass and found flash holes to be slightly off center.

Blazer originally started as aluminum cases and Wolf had steel. Both have now switched to brass. Make certain of which type you have.

I believe that Blazer uses small pistol primers.
Anytime that my large pistol primer won't fit, it is always Blazer brass.
I'm sure that this is the problem.

The Blazers I loaded were all large pistol !!!

Another thought has just occurred......is it possible he's got some 45 GAP mixed in...... it uses a small primer !!!

If you can load them the first time on a Dillon 1050, the primer pockets will be swaged to the correct size.

I have some Federal 45 ACP brass that is also primed with small pistol primers. Just another thing to have to keep sorted.
