Thanks guys
Here's a photo of the spent brass

They all came out looking like they were stepped on and I don't
know how they could be dented this way except upon extraction.
I couldn't get a really great picture from the side, but the dent is
about 1/8 inch or 3mm down the case.

Thanks for the picture, Suz. Looks like dings are occurring during extraction. Are there brass marks on your receiver? How far do the cases fly when they are ejected? They should still reload fine.

Yup, its simply hitting the deflector hard, you can always reload these with no problem and if you don't like the dents on the neck you can always put in weaker ejector spring.

Yeah I just noticed the marks on the deflector, it's not going through the black finish but I can see where they've hit it. How interesting, that's quite a force to do that. Don't know how far the cases are flying, because I've got a shell catcher on there. Oh well, thanks fellers!

I've ordered an enhanced firing pin for the Wolf ammo, it sticks out .002 more (it's on back order of course) along with another 10rnd magazine. My 5rnd mag only holds 4, so I think I'm going to tinker with the spring a bit. I could actually make it a 10rnd.....thinking on that one.

Take a coil or two off of the ejector spring and it will lay the brass out at 2:00 in a nice pile.

Thanks Dawg Slim and Omni I found an article to back you up, maybe others can use this article also.

IMO I would hold off of taking a coil off the ejector plunger spring until it has had time to wear in a bit. I would though look at how far out the plunger itself comes and would possibly grind it a bit shorter to not stick out so far but that is another option to look at after it has had time to wear in. Every once in a while we had problems like that when I was working in the company arms room as the assistant armourer back in my infantry days.

Thanks ITDark, was thinkin the same thing really. I've only put 30rnds through it. Actually in that article the guy really takes a chunk of spring off and I thought maybe that was excessive. I'd rather creep up on the amount. I haven't even sighted it in, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't blow up if I put live ammo in it. Should'a brought band-aids tho. Very Happy

those cases will reload fine IMHO as the gi brass I use has alot of them like it and its never been a problem.
why you might well ask do I use it? well I was given a 10ltr bucket full of it and its great I can use it once and dont have to worry if I cant find it for another reload. the chopper boys had to put deflecters on thier rifles cause the brass cases flying upwards didnt do the rotors any favours. gee those must have been exciting times.

I don't know mine is a raised flattop, but I got the same red dot Suz was showing earlier on it. I have used the military sites that came with the .223 upper and they work fine.

Cool FN I can't wait to hear!! I think mine needs to be raised up a bit. I was using ear muffs when shooting but I noticed at home (without the gun being loaded) it seems to be at the right height. I might just get a riser of some sort. It's a lot faster than lining up front and rear sites and it's really fast on follow up shots.
Good luck FN, what is your barrel length? I think that's my next build.
get some piggie

You really do not want to be leaning your head over to see the sight or have it so high you have your jaw on the stock instead of your cheek. Head up and erect eyes forward and looking through the middle of the eye not up at your eyebrows.

I use the Millet Extra high Flat top mounts that are 1" up plus 1/2" of scope so if your line of sight is about 1.5" above the rail your head should be in a solid position with a good cheek weld.

Another check would be center of bore to center of optic - An A2 iron sight is about 2.3" above the center of the bore.

From your picture the mount should get you up about high enough.

Thanks DawgD I just measured and it's 1 1/2" above the rail (the center of the glass). It's perfect without the ear protection. With my head gear on, the ear cup is able to contact the stock so that's what I'm trying to get around. My hat size is 6 7/8 so I have a need for smaller head gear and I also wear glasses which make the ear cups stick out just a little too. I have some other ear plugs I can wear, just don't like to wear them.

Yah I don't want to put my chin on the stock that's for sure! I do think I'll look for about a 1/2" riser and just try it out, it may be the bee's knees for meeees. Are you sayin I need a full inch riser?
