Darned if I know. Neighbor brough it over. Want's me to service it. Prolly can do by blocking the breech open but I'd like to get it apart if I could. Gotta epoxy the grip too....

Any ideas on what this is and how to take it down?

I've seen them before, here's a link. www.gun-parts.com/rohm/

They were made by a German company "Rohm" and your buddies gun should be a 25acp.

Thanks I'll check it when I get home (cant open link @ work)....I think there's a hitch in the slide somewhere along the travel where one can tilt it off...then go fwd. Not sure what the exact proceedure is so...need to do more research. Pulling really slow and gently lifting up says there's a spot where I'm supposed to take it off at but...there's ovbiously more to this puzzle so...

Guns are funny little things. Lot of them are like little puzzles. All it takes is the first step then they usually come apart from there. That part always intregued me. Interesting engineering.

If I remember correctly RGs make excellent paperweights ... The company was sued out of existence in 1986 due to "product liability" issues. In 100% condition the gun would be worth $65.

Here is some background information on the manufacturerer and this pistol.
Title: RG Industries
Description:
- “RG” is an abbreviation used by both “Rohm Gesellschaft” of Germany and “R.G. Industries. Inc” of Miami, Florida, U.S.A.
- R.G. Industries was a Miami-based importer/manufacturer of “Rohm” type firearms established in 1972 and ceased operations in 1986.
- Rohm produced handguns were denied importation into the USA by way of the 1968 Gun Control Act. It appears that R.G. Industries was established to either produce Rohm pistols under licences and/or import the parts from Rohm for assembly at the Miami location.
- Those handguns assembled/produced in the USA by R.G. Industries do not have any German proof marks, as well the R.G. Industries name and location is prominently displayed usually on the left rear side of the frame.
- Any pistol that bears the R.G. Industries name and location as noted above, and, has no German proof marks must have been produced between 1972 and 1986.
This is from the Firearms Reference Table.

The RG 25 calibres are 25 auto and 6.35mm.
Yo may see a small witness mark on the top edge of the frame when you are slowly pulling the slide back to lift off the slide.

Ugh!

Great.

Think I'll service it slide-on and give it back with a stern warning not to fire it.

Pretty beefy little thing. LOTS of holster wear. Would not want to let the slide slip tring to chabmer one- cocks at the rearmost of the slide travel and the pin stays exposed untill then- can you say slam fire?

I just called my brother-in-law who had one of these back in the 80's and he told me that he purchased one from a pawn shop and took it home. This is the one that I seen mentioned earlier in your post. Anyway, he told me to advise you to NOT work on the gun.

When he got his from the pawn shop, he took it home and cleaned it the best he could without no instruction manual. When he took it to the range using factory 25acp ammo, he fired 3 shots and it hung up, cleared the round and slid rack forward and BOOM. After further inspection it seems that the firing pin was sticking out and setting off the rounds without pulling the trigger.

It fired without finger on trigger, tried 2 more rounds and they worked ok until 3rd round, 3rd round went BOOM again with hands no where near the trigger. He mashed his with a 10lb sledgehammer to make sure no one else could operate this gun.

Probably the only gun made by this company (Rohm) that worked right was the one to shoot President Reagan.

Yep- I noticed the fixed pin during function test WITHOUT AMMO.

I'm funny like that.

I noticed you really gotta pull that slide back till the sear catched and the pin stays locked out or if it slides forward you gotta slam fire. I tought OK, yer fine there but...what if ya gotta whimper load or ya limp wrist it and it ejects and feeds a new one, well, you getta suprise.

I'm giving it back to him with these notes with the stong suggestion he let me beat the s*** outta it in my vice with my 5# mallet.

Sounds like a winner, stovey! Not sure if it worth the time to even work on it. If you decide to pull the trigger can you change your will to leave your 45 and 44 to me? Best wishes.
