Well my deer season's over with. A few doe's hangin around but that's about all. Same last year too. Gonna haveta put some feed seed on my hunting plot I guess. Poooie rain and nasty cold weather.....youth hunters get an extra weekend to hunt, they'll need it around here. Funny there doesn't seem to be many hunters around but I think that's why I didn't see any deer. Nothing to spook them out of their beds. Lots and lots of sign on the grounds but they're runnin around at night I guess. Oh well it was fun to get out there and it made me get some exercise. I'm pretty good at climbing that hill now and I'll keep goin up there once in a while, it's beautiful and quiet. It's timber farm land but I'll see if I can manage to plant something up there the deer might munch on. If I can plant something in a thicket to give it a chance to grow a bit before the deer find it. Or I could put a salt lick or two in the ground.......... or maybe hire some of those illegals to tramp the outlying area next year and spook them my way.....they could carry my gun and backpack for me too. I could have lunch waiting for me and get the truck polished, during the off-season they could always paint my house and mow the lawn.....they won't even have to pay taxes....long as I don't pay em.

Yup Vinnie I have planted some pasture seeds in there with good luck before, time to do it again I guess. I found some seed that had legumes and all sorts of good stuff in it. Maybe they like ice-cream too. Already know they like pizza but delivery costs are up and there really isn't an address there (that I know of). I could send up some nice hot latte this winter and sort of schmmmmoooooooozzz them along with that. Yeah I gots my ways.

If I was a deer I'd fall for the Snickers bars, but if that don't work try Funny Bones. I have a heck of a time passing by them.

Waiting for some snow before I head out for my moose. I love to hunt when the white stuff is down. Still morning air, fresh tracks, every sense alerted, hot coffee in a thermos, a crackling small fire with a kettle and hot beans for lunch, the burst of a ptarmigan from cover, the crack of a rifle, the moon on snow as you trudge back to the truck, clean air, clean land and clean soul. It doesn't get any better for me.

Got a nice public land archery buck!
This buck showed up last year behind my house during the pre-rut ( right now last year ) He was living on the other side of the road on private but for some reason would prefer to rut on my side on the public. A lot of the locals have been shining him and some guys even came to my house and asked about the buck... I tried to keep it quiet but that was useless and a lot of guys were hunting for him. A little over a week ago his big rubs showed on my side of the road... All the other hunters were thinking the buck was useing the trails he was rubbing on and were setting up over the top... But I new where he was bedding and that the rubs were not on his trails but were marking doe trails as he crossed them after dark... I set up in the spot where I thought he was bedding and was very fortunate to watch him rise from his bed about 70 yards away and start coming in... I shot him as he passed my tree at 7 yards. I took a tape out and we measured him for kicks. 166 1/8 shy of B&C by 3 7/8 The mass was increadable. His beams are as big as my wrists all the way out.
I almost got him last year when I jumped him in a doe bedding area 100 yards from where I shot him this year. He stood up 30 yards from me, but I did not have an arrow knocked. This was my second hunt for this buck, and both patience and looking at what the other hunters were doing combined with knowing the buck bedding areas is what got this guy... Pre-rut or not, he wouldn't of gotten 200 yards in daylight at the rate he was moving.
