The family and I shot up to the canals today for a quick fish, I managed to catch 2 smaller fish around 1lb each. I kept the bigger of the 2 and kept fishing I eventually got a 4 1/2 lb beauty. had a good day Ranging aswell caught a few poaching huas. you would think in this day and age people would not be dumb enough to go after trout and salmon without a licence, not to mention twits who think its ok to fish with 2 rods at the same time. The rules are pretty simple and not hard to follow. The salmon went down a treat for tea and theres enough for tomorrow night aswell. Very Happy

Well done Elvis...on all counts mate.

What do you do with the poachers...hand them over to the relevant authorities, or just give them a little "contact counselling"?

Cheers, Vince

write them out a ticket/offence notice and sieze the fishing rod. give these to Fish &Game and they take it from there. the back of the wagon was a bit full today as we came home with 4 stray rods Very Happy
I dont get any money etc for doing this its purely to look after the resource that I do it. I want my grandkids to have some trout and ducks to grace the table with too. the way things have looked to me it was time to step up and do my bit for the future Ive had a great 39 years most of it fishing & hunting and would hate to see it stuffed up by doing nothing to protect it.

My brother and I are hunter education instructors and assistant game wardens. This is volunteer work but as lovers of the outdoors we find this to be very rewarding. We have a 335 square kilometer forested territory to cover in northern Québec. We can pull over any vehicle or anyone that is on that piece of land and check for fishing, hunting or trapping regulations infractions. We can seize any fish, game or fur but not vehicles. We can give infraction tickets. The hard part is the daily report that we have to complete in minute details. We spend about three months of the year doing assistant game warden work ( June, October and November) and we form about 200 new hunters per year during the winter months ( one week-end per formations). I am glad to see that I am not the only huntingnut that is involved in this domain.

Now don't be so hard on the fella and put that stick away! For now anyway.

Genitabill...Will you be joining us at the fire? If so. Pull up that spare stump, grab a beer and join in.

How say you?

Damn, funny you should ask.... I convinced SWMBO I needed a new season fishing licence and she agreed........
Well I went down to my little spot and low and behold I had a lovely 3 lb Brown Trout in 5 minutes!!!!! Thats never happened to me before!
Gotta get back and see what else i can coax out of the depths. I took a photo on my phone and I'm trying desperately to to download it just to prove it!
I WILL Post it.

Hey Elvis! Opening day here (deer season) tomorrow too, hope I feeel good enough to go, so far so good. I usually don't go on the first day, let those early birds shoot each other first. Last year was slim pickens though and my freezer is very very hungry.

had a good day out, everyone we checked was behaving I even got to flick out the flyrod.
took my son out on sunday up a local stream we saw 2 trout both of which are still swimming and spooked a canada goose probably got a mate on a nest nearby. while I cooked tea on the BBQ tonight my son asked to learn to fly fish so I got my old rod out and started the looong road of learning(Ive been fly fishing for 32 years and still learning) hopefully he will take it up then I will have a fishing aswell as duckshooting buddy.we may have something to talk about during the horible teanage years ahead.

You are one lucky bugger Elvis...make the most of the time and opportunity to teach your boy mate. I have four daughters and none of them are really interested in hunting or fishing. Luckily I have six grandkids (5 boys & one girl), and another due in a week, so hopefully I will have someone to keep me company in the years to come.

Cheers, Vince

Elvis...If you have something you and your son can talk about on equal terms you will find that the "terrible teens" ain't so bad at all. It sure helps with the ability to communicate between son and dad...
