The media is keeping this little bit of legislation quiet.

Introduced: Jan 04, 2013 (113th Congress, 2013–2015)
Sponsor: Rep. José Serrano [D-NY15]

Funny how all the repressive & restrictive ideas come from people who call themselves "progressive" & "liberal".

You know all throughout history there have been societies because of "progress" beyond what the society could handle at the time.
There was a reason this was put in place. And it was the right call.
Regardless of who was president at the time, or any time.
This is something that NEEDS to be watched closely. For everyone.
Oppression is a two sided coin.

Politicians have proven time and time again they arent to be trusted, anything they want to impliment is for THEIR advantage, not the countries or the general populous.
This the THE major reason Australia hasn't gone down the Repulian trail and we are still an offshoot monarchy of Great Britian.
The politicians want to totally rewrite the pissweak constitution we currently have and give us less freedoms than at present. They are all vying for the position of First president of the republic of Australia.
This will come to a head in the next 10 or so years when Queen Elizabeth dies and we have to make a choice of continue with the monachy or go republic.
I must admit that the republican model the USA has doesnt thrill me, you seem to have lost your way, but thats another story......

Ok, Australians are still "subjects of the realm" until you become a republic. Learn from our mistakes and don't initiate a powerful central government. Use a president like the you use the monarch - as a figurehead to act as a diplomat to foreign heads of state but do NOT allow them any power. Don't bother with elected officials - have the people vote for themselves on each issue - one issue to a bill - so there isn't any "we really need this but that added item is not needed" process to go through. One bill, one item, one law. Use an initiative process to start new bills - any citizen that wants can start an initiative but it takes a certain percentage of the voters to get it on the ballot. Then set up a "Constitutional Court" whose only job is to make sure that any bill is in compliance with the constitution before it becomes law. Above all else Learn from what has worked; provide yourselves with a "bill of rights" that includes an equivelent to the ninth amendment - that the people have rights that are not enumerated in the listed bill of rights. Be sure to include a clause that was omitted (it was thought to have been understood by the framers) in our constitution that reads the just power of government comes from the people and the the government is put in place to protect the rights of the individual citizen. Then you can include the usual stuff about "the common good" and "general welfare".
I am in the process of writing (re-writing) a constitution for after the current system fails and would be hppy to share it if you would like to see what may be better than what we have now. Just email me (paulstephens(at)q(dot)com and ask for the constitution as modified. It might be a starting point for you when the process begins in your country.
Besides, if you enact one like mine I may want to move before we get our chance to initiate the changes here.

On a recent Facebook post I referred to Obama as Der Fuehrer. I wasn't joking.
On changes to the Constitution, I believe that it takes 2/3 of the Senate and 2/3 of the states to change.
Even though Der Fuehrer won the election, Red States outnumber blue states by a bunch.
However, I don't trust this administration one inch, so we have to be on top of things that they may try.
This guy has no respect for the Constitution or our Founding Father's wishes.
Eric
PS-- One of my liberal friends posted that I should treat the President with respect that he deserves and not to call him names. I replied that he has to start acting like a President then. I also reminded my friend the names that PRESIDENT Bush was called were far worse when he was on office.

But ElyBoy...It's O K for the left to call republican presidents names, but it is against all hell if we criticize their pick.

You are spot on Bushy.
I've been busy with the kids, and also with FaceBook sometimes forget to hit HuntingNut.
Try not to let this happen again.

This was tried before I believe and went no place! Its all smoke and mirrors to draw attention away from other more pressing issues!
