Sitting in the rear seat of my daughter's car on the way to her sister's place the other day...noticed a bit of an itch.
Thought, hmmm...best scratch...so I did, and noticed a little lump.
Got to the eldest daughter's place, slipped into the bathroom to check out this lump, and what do I find...a bloody bush tick on "the twins" !!!!!!!!
Out with the tweezers and carefully removed said offending critter (the tick ) from "the twins", and because it was only small, of course I left the head behind...not good!! Out with my trusty razor sharp pocket knife and EXTREMELY gently scraped away till I was sure that I had removed the head. Dabbed away the blood, applied some hand sanitizer...damn, forgot that stuff has alcohol in it.
Once "the twins" had calmed down, I apologised to them for the alcohol onto raw flesh, then went and made a coffee.
Have no idea how I picked up a tick...haven't been in the bush. Only thing I can think of is I was laying under my car the day before in the driveway and had walked on the grass a few times and must have picked it up then. BUGGER.
Cheers, Vince

Use stuff that has Permethrin rather than Deet like Off uses.. Permethrin stuns or kills insects that come into contact with it. Deet repels insects by blocking the receptors on an insect’s antennae which help it obtain its host. You spray the stuff on your clothes, not your skin, best of all there is no smell like Deet products. And it does not hurt your clothes and can be washed and is good for up to 6 weeks.
Heres where I get mine, Bug Killer-No Deet

A few weeks back I found out about "tick paralysis". One of our pooches suddenly couldn't walk, his back legs weren't working. Seems the tick releases a neurotoxin that can eventually kill the victim if the tick isn't removed quickly enough. The dog had been treated with a good flea and tick repellent/killer but apparently the tick lasted long enough to poison him. After 4 days at the vet's and some medication he is well on his way to recovery. I always did hate those little critters, what with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme disease in them, and now they add to the list!

Every time one gets a tick, they should go to the doctor and get some antibiotics.
Lyme disease is a common one that gets skipped over, as is meningitis, and a few other nasties.
I'd rather get complications from a Mosquito bite then from a tick.

Thankfully we aint got that Lyme disease here...I get a few time to time goofin' off in the bush. Well, at least I hope we aint got that here!
Pretty funny some of the methods others use to get them off. Dont piss the buggers off of they barf and that's when ya get it. After I pluck 'em if I'm at home I'll bag it and and toss it in the freezer for a few weeks in case I come down with something.

Stovey, that's a darn good idea to freeze them in case of later complications!
