H870 is really useful stuff for some things- and cheap besides.
It's worth noting that Accurate Arms 8700 powder is very, very similar (might well be the same stuff)

Jack:
Your statement is partially true. I have used both in the 7mm Rem mag and the 300 RUM and have gotten completely diffrent results in accuracy and velocity.

You shocked me at first because once a powder is discontinued usually it's discontinued for good. I also found H870 to be quite dirty when I used it about 15 years ago. It really did a number on my case necks. Some reloaders swore by it for accuracy in the larger calibers so it did have a following. Best wishes.

Ok POP!!,
You have had me searching the Hodgdon site since you posted this and I can not find H869. Is it a surplus powder from Jeff Bartlet etc?
I use H870 in my 264 Win Mag with 40 grain Nosler Partitions and it gives better velocity and accuracy compared to AA-8700 with the same bullet so AA-8700 is not the same as H-870. I located 5 lbs at a gunshop near me that I scarfed up. There was supposed to be more in the back but I didn't see it on the shelf when I went back last month.
I tried AA-MagPro and got so-so results with it in the 264 and 140 grainers. I have tried to get some info for the 264 using Hodgdon Retumbo but they are afraid to give a starting load suggestion (liability reasons because they have not tested it in the 264.)
So the H-869 sounds interesting but where on earth is it found? I like the cleaner burning claim. 870 does nasty up the cases and bore but it shoots so nice.
