We are OK here...most of the flooding is at least a couple of hundred kilometres away from us...although we are still getting heaps of rain here...I think I'm starting to grow webbed feet mate. Laughing

We actually got six inches of rain over the past two days...certainly wet here, that's for sure.

Cheers, Vince

We got 3 inches of rain, here in my part of Brisbane, between 9am and 2pm today. The ground is totally saturated and will not accept anymore water so all we have now is run off, and it is that run off that is causing a few problems...but no flooding here yet.

Cheers, Vince

This is near one of the areas suffering from the floods...a good reason not to drive through flood waters.

Its amazing how the water has shifted the entire road surface into the washout and the bush.

Even the train can't get through.

The power of floodwater can be a terrible thing.
We had catastrophic floods here in November '09 that killed several people.
As you say Vince: it will help refill the huge aquifers that have been depleted over recent years.

Vince,
Might be time to invest in a wetsuit and an Inflatable. Heard on the news that there was a "wall of water" coming your way from further inland, several dead etc. Keep yer powder dry!

Tikka - Knowing how good the "Black Craps" are I wouldn't be pushing the borax at the Australian cricket team at the moment. LOL - but it is a wee bit funny.

Got the wetsuit mate...grown the web feet over the past couple of months...don't have a boat though...BUGGER.

The flood that hit one of our inland towns is astounding. This town is on the edge of the escarpment and it is the last place I would have expected to flood.

The people there got about 10 minutes warning that there was a wall of water...literally...heading for the town. At this time there are 8 confirmed dead and 72 missing. Police say that they expect the dead toll to rise when the flood waters recede and they are able to check actually see how many cars were washed away and if the people are still in them. It hit that fast mate, vehicles were washed off roads and bridges in the wall of water...people never had a chance to stop and get out of their vehicles. They are calling it an "inland Tsunami".

The water is slowly heading downstream towards Brisbane now. I don't believe that the area I am in will flood...we are about 18 kilometres from the river with some pretty high ground between us and the river, although I do have a small creek about 200 metres from my house, but it is not a problem.

Just heard that they have evacuated the inner city in Brisbane because of the approaching flood waters. Our water supply dam is currently sitting at 170% capacity and it is only designed for a max of 200%, so they are going to have to release a massive amount of water, and that feeds straight into the Brisbane River. They anticipate about 8000 homes will "be affected". Not good.

Cheers, Vince

Vince,

I have been in two Emegency Flooding situations, get to high ground if theres any inkling you could get flooded. From what we are getting from the media, if you take out all the B.S. and hype you still have an awful situation there.

If its affectring Brizzy and the Gold Coast whats happening further north like the Sunshine Coast. Thats where my family is.

Keep the site posted, if your emails get wet we will try to dry them before reading them LOL.

I hear ya mate...at the slightest hint of problems...the missus is in the car and I'm burnin' rubber.

It is terrible mate...and for once, the media hype is all on the money.

Where are your family mate? I can make some calls and ensure everything is OK for you...you have my email...send me names and contact details and I will chase it up for you as a matter of urgency.

Cheers, Vince

This is from UTube...will show the ferocity and speed of the flood. Very very scary.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYUpkPTcqPY

I'm not sure what the death count is now...but I believe it has gone up from my previous post.

EDIT: 10 confirmed deaths and 78 missing with grave fears held for at least 18 of those 78.
