I am so stoked, I am going to be testing out my test loads this weekend. I am going camping with the family and we are bringing along out boom sticks. I have had these rounds made up for a while but have not really gotten the chance to test them out. planning on chronographing them and everything.

As a person that finds it absolutely unnecessary to improve a proven rifle in the first place and the Winchester .30 WCF (.30-30) is that rifle.
I will be interested in what you find and then we can compare it with my round that I use in my 63 year old mod 94.

Unfortunatly I was unable to try out my new loads. I am completely happy with using factory loads in my Winchester model 94 for deer hunting, I am only interested in improving the accuracy at a longer range and have found that factory Leverevolution rounds do that. I decided to load my own to find a perfect load for my gun. I also found that I could save around 4 dollers a box by loading this round myself. My model 94 is somewhere around 80 years old and then some and still shoots like a champ. I am hoping to get out this weekend with my father-in-law and test them and if I do I will then share my findings. I also would like to Chrono them and was unable to aquire a chronograph for the test.

I finally got a chance to test my loads and was not as impressed as I had hoped. I am going back to the drawing board with loads for my gun. I am going to test these loads in my Dads and my brothers gun to see if there is a difference as my model 94 is old and very well used, I am hoping that its just that these loads do not work as well in my gun as they may in theirs. The best group was in at 2 inches.

IMR 3031 has been my go to powder for the 30/30 for many years in both 150gr and 170gr bullets. I did do some load tests with Hodgdons LVR powder and initial test were good. Didn't have time to take LVR any further because of work. But for me, 3031 has proven itself for many years and will continue to do so.

For the Winchester Mod 94 I will harp on this one more time (well until next time ). W-748 (32 grains) Speer Hotcore (170 grain) FNSP. CCI 200 primer and either Winchester or Remington cases. Using the FCD to crimp.

As soon as I can afford it I may try the W748 and the speer FNSP. I also plan on getting the factory crimp die no matter what combo I go with.

I can only add one bullet to the advice Bushy gave you and that would be the Nosler 170gr Partition RN.

One of the finest bullet still on the market and the one that most bullets try to immulate for the .30-30 is the Remington Core-Lokt.

Your right Bushy, I take it for granted the Core-Lokt bullets, I know for a fact I have more of them bullets then any other combined. I have never had a problem with the Core-Lokts doing its job on game that I've shot.
