I've never seen a duck in a tree. I thought it was weird to see a pheasant in a tree, but a duck. I bet they can't land in a tree when the wind is blowing much, but what do I know.

They do that before and during floods......
I have seen it north of me, where it floods every year but not around where I live.

Our wood ducks (a native goose) do that and also nest in tree hollows

Yes it is..I'll have to go look and see if there is a hole or something on that side, for a nest..

our paradise ducks, similar to Aussie mountain ducks are often up trees quite often a old dead tree up in the bush has a parrie up it. makes for interesting deerstalking cause if the parrie sees you its game over they take off squaking and animals head for cover.

. . . and freaking turkeys!!! I had a friend up visiting for deer season a few years ago. Set him up in a nice spot on a trail where the deer head from their feeding to bedding areas, about 1 1/2 hours before sunrise. Not only did he freeze his butt off, even with heavy winter camo gear (he is from Alabama) but just as the first of the deer approached . . . PLOP . . .PLOP, PLOP . . . .. . plop, plop, plop, PLOP - Turkeys started dropping from their roosts, all around him. I am not sure if the deer would have disappeared quite so fast if he hadn't screamed.

I thought you were about to say that the turkeys tried to distract him by dumping on him. Either way, would have been funny to see, especially the look on his face.
