Suz, your story reminds me of my Grandfather. He literally went from the horse and buggy to the space shuttle in his lifetime; born in 1896, died in 1992 at age 97.

Back to the motors and drives... There are some inexpensive, low power, variable AC drives out there that will run off single phase power and produce three phase outputs to run AC motors. They use DC pulses, positive and negative, and modulate the pulse width to get the variable speed. Something like this might be useful for testing. www.automationdirect.c...)/GS1-10P2

It's funny that these days we think of the major innovations in transportation and electronics as being the most significant changes to our way of life. My Dad (born in 1921) pointed out to me that when he was growing up there still wasn't refridgeration or antibiotics.

Marty, you're right, there was a lot more than just transportation advances, I just used that as an example. Think of the changes in medicine since 1896!

For Paul's work he'd need something more "special". I kinda actually like his idea. Been looking it over with some books I got. Need to get back to him with some suggestions once I am sure I know what I am talking about.
