Someone's freezer's gonna be full.

Got snowed out of my last day of bird hunting...roads were closed and clogged w/ traffic- as in not going anywhere for 5 hours. I dodged that bullet and when dirt riding with my nephew!

We're getting some good rain's and the flora and fauna out here are all over it. Gonna be good hunting next season.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Aint hunted in a while now.... well, a couple few weeks ago I went riding and camping. Woke up early for a walk-about with the 22lr. Bagged a nice crow and another irritating little tweety, didn't see no Jack's. Been about it since upland birds closed.

I'm thinkin' right soon I'd should mosey on up there, take a poke around, try my luck at some Jack's, no season on them, and sniff about for roosts.

I miss being on edge, just amped outta my gord thinking "the flush is coming sometime" yet you don't know just when and then - BAM!- something blasts from cover on foot or wing! Instinctively, the gun comes up, it's mounted, you track and *pop-pop-pop!* Woohooo! OK- you can start breathing again. Laughing

Man! What a rush. Razz

I miss it. Miss it a lot. Sad

Comon upland 2010/11....open open open.

I can't wait!

Gonna revive this old thread...

The wife finally got her first crossbow whitetail last night. We were hunting a new property for only the second time, so where to set up the ground blind was a somewhat educated guess. Just before dark three deer made their way into range. This one offered a broadside shot at 24 yards. She was so excited at the oppurtunity, I couldn't tell her to wait for the "bigger" deer to get turned for a shot, so I told her to take the shot she had.

It was not a perfect shot, so we decided to pack up the blind and wait for morning to trail the deer. Initially, we couldn't find any sign, but the wife finally found a few drops of blood. She wanted to trail it herself, so I took a backseat. After about 30 yards, I reminded her to occasionally look out in front of the trail, in case the deer was alive, and as soon as she checked out in front, she spotted the deer about 25 yards away. She started shaking again (just as much as when she was in the blind last night) when she made her way to the deer. This photo was taken at the spot we found the deer. You can see the exit wound clearly.I'm glad we backed out last night, otherwise we may have never seen this one again.

Well done Mrs HJ...that is one nice looking piece of venison. A sweet looking deer for a lovely looking dear. Very Happy Razz

HJ...adrenalin does funny things to some people. I have a mate who suffers from "buck fever" something chronic. As soon as he lays eye on a deer he goes into overdrive. Its actually quite amusing to watch sometimes.

Cheers, Vince

She looks so smart HunterJ, and I bet she enjoys cooking even more now, it sure changes my view of it if I'm cookin something I've shot. It would be nice if "the wife" had a name! I'm always thinking up something to do with some mystery cut of meat, it's fun. Or maybe you should treat her to a meal shot by a queen! I have some wonderful after-dinner ideas too.

Suz,

She just kills 'em, I gotta gut 'em, drag 'em, hang 'em, skin 'em, cut 'em and cook 'em (if it's gonna be edible). By the time I'm done with all that, I usually wanna go to sleep after dinner....

Vince,

She says "Thanks, ya smooth talkin' devil"...

I suffer from "buck fever" worse than anyone I know...

One time I nearly stepped right off my tree stand after I stuck an arrow in a deer...
