Yer not the only old fart here by a long shot Bushy - I turned 60 last March (Well, that's old to me, anyway - the oldest I've been so far.)
Aloys - Give your friend my compliments on the mounts. The fighting stags are great. Now I'm going to have to bag TWO trophys to have a mount like that.
I have one in mind, now I'll have to scout out a second one.

That's the spirit...
And Suz, youngest?
Why do I think I'm 2 months younger? (altough I don't have hair like the bushmen...)

Young is a matter of mental conditioning, and who you hang with....looks is another thing altogether, Nature takes it's course (darn it)

How "conditioned" is your avatar? You look plenty young and a soothing sight for my sore eyes.

Very complimentary SlimJ...but I just turned 55 and that photo was taken when I was (I think) just out of high school. I had a friend that was smitten with taking pictures and actually may have sold this one and others a few times. I never saw any money out of it but the pictures were released and circulated back in the pre-digital age. I converted this one from a slide. I was just helpin a friend get along in life but there was no real career established, just a portfolio to nowhere. But I'm not a fat old Indian....just an old Indian...let yer imagination run wild.

When you wake up in the morning and your body is not hurting you on more than 3 spots, you should be pleased. All the rest is just stuff between the ears, as many other things are.
Vince, I'm glad they inpire you. I get a lot of it on weapons.be where a lot of local knifemakers show their work. But I have my limits and as soon a knife is more expensive than I dare to use, then limits are crossed. For now on, I rather spend my money on guns than on knives. You have the right attitude: when you want a special knife, just try to make it yourself, which could give much more satisfaction.
(and don't forget: when a fixed blade is no longer a challenge, there's always a new model of folding knife you didn't try to produce...)

I wonder how he makes those brass pins so decorative, the blades look like they're etched or something and they wonderfully match the wood. I think I should be a knife maker too. I had my yearly review a few days ago and I got my usual 50 cents. I think he's planning another trip to Europe.......I need a new job....with pay, would be good. OMG I could sure bitch about my boss right now...I won't.
I didn't see any prices on his knives, I guess you have to contact him.

Mozaikpins: as Vince explains: take a tube, put some stuff inside and glue it all together (2-component glue).
Blades: I think Flip is using damast. After finishing the blade, he puts it in Fe-III-chloride or diluted sulfuric acid which makes the lines appear.
Another friend takes a non-damast blade, put wax on it, makes drawings and afterwards etches it with iron-III-chloride (= that stuff used to make prints in electronica, you even can find it in wast-water-treathment of slaughterhouses where fat is a problem)
Suz, I'll try to send you a picture of a knife Ruben made me. We designed it together and it's rather special. He called it "Rhino" and when you see the shape of the knife and the pats he made on the blade, you'll understand why.
And prices... Vince knows how much time it takes to produce 1 and only a few well-known knifemakers can make those very high prices, so don't hope to earn lots of money on knifemaking. But it can give lots of satisfaction.

I saw some of his Rhino designs, I wanna see yours. I like the mastodon handles too. He also makes great sheaths, they look so form-fit and shiny.
